Anyone try just putting on aftermarket cats with stock mufflers?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone just changed the cats and not the mufflers? I know it would be best to change the headers, cats and mufflers but I was wondering if anyone has just done the cats?

What were the results? Did you get a different exhaust tone comparable to just having aftermarket mufflers?

Would there be negative effects to doing this?

Do some headers too. At the very least the E-bay/suncoast headers or the X-51 headers. The stock headers are a very poor design IMO.

I have a set of E-bay headers cheap. PM me if interested. The only reason I took them off is because I found a complete AWE system used.

What did you think of the eBay headers? Did you notice an improvement over stock?

Yes. The noise changed slightly and the top end was definitely better.

If I remember correctly the primaries are the same as stock and the collector is about 10mm bigger in dia. than stock.

And they eliminate the resonance in the cab that I found in 6th gear at highway speeds.

I am running a system like you are asking about. I am having some issues with the AWE cats, but they seem to be dealing with it.

Northvan, what seem to be the issue? Has it been an isolated case or has there been several cases like the one you are having?

The people at AWE are aware of this problem, and upgrade them for a fee to the new ones, I am getting a CEL after 4000 miles without problems. Dealer says the two sensors are reading different air flow rates from one to the next. It is easy to reset and stays away for a few days and then comes back. Doesn't effect performance, just a PIA.

I have the AWE cats and the X51 headers, love this combo. A great upgrade and worth the money.
