tOP gEAR MAG just got a hold of a pre=production Aston AMV8 and comapred it against the 997 C2S and basically said to save your money until the Aston comes out.

The M5 allegedly circles the ring in just under 8 as well so, just as fast as a C2S around the ring, only a couple ticks off the 996 Turbos time around the ring, and faster than a GT2 to 200km/h. HMMM, i'd much rather have the M5.

pretty impressive specs if the new M5 can match the M3 CSL.

however, still, I can't believe that the M5 would have near as much driving feel and all the sports intangibles that the 997S has.

Yes the M5 is a great compromise for those who need a sedan but want some sports feel ... but in the end it is nothing but a comprimise to a real sports car like the 997 IMHO.

If someone didn't need 4 doors & 4 seats, why would they even consider the M5 (or E55 or RS6 or whatever)?

recent EVO mag article ends with "The 997 is an awesome machine, a mighty achievement ... the finest sub-70,000 pound car on the planet."

M5 will have a lot of problem with the engine!! it will be out 1 1/2 year from now. There is no point to wait for it.

Enough Bimmer! thats right Mansour. Get a 997 S. You will like it and you can get it earlier ^^

One thing that I don't like about any of the Audi RS6/MBZ E55/BMW M5 is that they are truly off a Sedan platform. Short of a car enthusiast most people think the mom driving in the 525 next to you is driving the same car. I saw a very nice E55 today, and while I know the difference most people probably think it is an E320. It tough when you drop 80+ large on a car that people (unless they are really into cars) think it's a 50K mom mobile. You will never have that problem with the 997. Just one thing to think about. Performance is a factor, but appearance is another factor for me too.

An M5 is a nice car, but in all seriousness.. nothing beats the agility, passon, soul, and elegance of a Porsche 911 carrera

M5 probably drives great, but unfortunately I find it incredibly unattractive. 997 all the way
