997 Market Gone Soft?
997 Market Gone Soft?
09 changes?
Economy?
Gas?
I've had my 2005 997S for sale for months and I've priced it lower than any similar car in the area (seattle). It has slight higher miles, i guess, at 33k, but it is black/black and has desireable options such as adaptive seats.
I've been pretty open to offers, but didn't expect it to take this long to move.
Just curious if anyone else is having these same issues..

My guess is folks in the market for one that have funds, would buy the new 997.2 09 models, while those needing to find a bargain on an older, used model, in todays economy, are not willing to spend the cash.
Or they will wait till the 997 2.0 come out, which will push the 997 price lower? Be interesting to see how the 997 2.0 will do in this market.
Having been on both sides of the market recently, I would say yes it is not the best climate to sell in- But, it is a good time to buy because deals are plenty.
Just picked up an 06 997 cab for $57k, 1 owner, showroom cond, all records, lots of options, 14k miles- In SoCal no less. Would have never touched it at that price had this been a strong market. Apparently the owner had it up for sale for quite some time at an already good $59k asking price. Even came with brand new PS2's, 2yr brake flush and recent 15k service.
I would say just be patient unless you want to drop price even further. If you feel your price is below or at the current selling prices (not the listed prices mind you, but prices that comparable cars are actually moving at), I'm sure a buyer will come along.
Anyway, hope this info helps a bit- GL!

The recent stock market drop probably has a few buyers scratching their heads a bit before Porsche shopping these days . It might even have a few thinking about selling their Porsche but my feeling goes like this .....
Your C2S has outperformed the market . Be patient . These cars are bought and sold in any economy .It may simply take more time for you to find buyer interest .

As a recent buyer, my initial thought was to wait for the 997.2 to come out so that the 997.1 market would saturate...making the supply go up and demand come down, which will translate to a lower resale for the 997.1.
There comes a point where the resale value of these kind of cars reaches a plateau point...sort of like the 993 models. Hopefully the 997 does not fall in the category of the 996 with poor resale values. As it stands now, 993s are holding a higher premium over the 996. Whether it's due to the "last air-cooled model" mentality or not is up to debate. Also the 996 was not too appealing aesthetically-wise to some (including myself). I don't see this as being a problem with the 997.

If you HAVE to sell it, your at the mercy of a lowballer with cash, just like everthing, it's taking a little longer to sell high end cars but I'd rather be trying to sell your PCAR than a used M3
. Going into winter in Seatlle, not sure seasonal markets have something to do with it. I waited to buy my C4S Cab In Sept. because I knew that that's when CAB's are priced lower...Is the market for PCARS in a stable economy strong in the fall where you live?We are all nuts about our PCARS, someone somewhere is looking to get their PCAR fix, we all know how it is...I'm sure your car will be somebody's ticket.. good luck.

Thanks guys. Definitely a lot of factors, but I've also heard that Porsches sell in all economic conditions, so I'll stay optimistic (and patient!). I don't HAVE to sell it, but wish I could drive it until someone picks it up.
Unsure of the market up here. Still think it's funny how there's such a market for verts even though it rains so much. Guess we like to make the most of the sunny 3-4 months.
Funny you mention M3s....thinking of downgrading to an E46 again due to a home purchase....

i think that any 997 will always hold its value even with the 997.2 out
most of the 09's are already accounted for and that means that if you want a 997, its going to be the 997.1 and its obviously going to be used

Where did you hear that most of the 09 area accounted for? From the dealers?
