996TT or 997 Carrera S

I asked this question in the 996TT section as well.

I know you guys have your bias, but is a '03 to '04 996TT w/ 25k on it or a '97 997S with 5k on it a better, smarter, buy?

The 996TT transmission problems are a real concern. Trying to be smart and responsible here.

I chose a CPO '06 997S over a CPO '04 996TT. I liked the interior of the 997 better and also the handling (RWD) over the 996TT (AWD).

The 996TT is a phenomenal car with plenty of power and a huge aftermarket for upgrades, but the 997 just suited me better.

if the power of the 997S is enough for you go for the 997 as it's newer model and the interior is way nicer. you'll enjoy the car more

A 996 Turbo is a very nice car, but I would buy a 997C2S before the Turbo. I am able to drive my C2S (with some mods) faster then some 996TT guys with some mods as well around most tracks. The C2S has good excelleration out of the corners, and the Turbo gets a bit of lag.

Long Term a NA car is more reliable then a Turbo charged car.

don't listen to NorthVan, as he can beat a lot of 911s just with his Allroad...

seriously, 997S all the way. Enough power for most people, 2WD more fun to drive, looks better, interior is way better.

Tim, not true. I am sure you are faster in #13 then I am in my Allroad! Are you coming out on Monday?

I'm in the same boat what's "more fun" to drive in anger on a road course?? Would a 2wd 997 or a awd 996 be more fun. Plus which one is better to live with daily??

For what it's worth I think I've decided on the 997S. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the performance is actually closer than you think. I also think the 997 will be a bit easier to live with. The turbo is certainly more "tuneable" though. If that's even a word.

Good luck w/ your choice.
