Stuck 911 vs Cayman S
thanks a lot, i will report back as soon as i drive the 997
the more i read the more i want the 911, just by listening to you guys, but it will come down to the test drive.
i found one 07 c2s that i can remotely pull off in my price range, too high but- here is the link on it, any thoughts. i could get a new 2008 911 4 for about 3 gs more but i am not thinking about it seriously until i drive it.
take a look at the link and let me know about the deal or no deal...pls
thanks a lot

the closest i could find was a c4 2008 brand new--in white with tan, with nothing really in it...asking 95g.
the c4 will be better in the winter but will the c2s be that bad...
rwd with rear engine weight?

crappy...try horrendous.
i think i have mastered rwd, top-heavy sedan-boats in canadian winter.
my old s500 was really bad, with the best winter tires even.
jags were worst.
this time i bought 4matic s550, so im ok now...i kinda miss the getting stuck and skidding fun.
anyways...you are right, benz in the snow, especially s class without 4 matic is a joke, especially on inclines.

911 all the way i had the same problem i could have had a cayman S but instead i got a base Carrera which i love so much more then any cayman just because cayman is a boxter with a hard top
had never considered buying a cayman as you're just paying MORE for a hard top boxster. Shouldn't the convertible always cost more (look at 911 cab, M3 cab, etc.)? why are you paying more for a hard top?
thats my main problem with the cayman...its a boxter, that easily comes out to 85gs....and i d never buy a boxster, personally not a fan.
anyways, i spoke to my sales man today and he is strongly pushing the 09 911 base with pdk for me...what are your thoughts, on this transmission and the 09 in general...keeping in mind i could get a brand new 2008 911 for less...but obviously only in manual and automatic is easier for traffic and hills, but how is the feeling of the pdk. i heard its nearly as good as a manual. comparable to the isf or something , as i drove that and was impressed by the transmission...

Hey champ, why don't you just go drive the different cars at your dealership and make up your mind. You're asking the question on the 997 board, wouldn't you expect that we are in favor of the 911? Next is the S vs. non-s. Those of us with the S will say get nothing less while those with the non-S will tout what a great car they are.
The fact is they are all Porsches and are all great in their own way. There are many who moved up from Boxsters that have huge amounts of praise for them-just in a different way/for different reasons. The Cayman is a step down from the 911 by design-restricted internally by Porsche so as not to affect sales of the 911. If the engine wee the same the car would likely achieve much better lap times due to the mid-engine layout.
You really need to go drive these cars. Probably not many here have driven a PDK equipped 997.2 and there are "purists" that will always desire to row their own gears no matter how good a sequential shift gearbox is.

i knew i would get bias as i am on the 911 board, i just figured id ask for some extra info before i went and drove the 911 wiht pdk, because from past history with buying cars, i dont test drive and come home...i generally test drive then take the car home the same night...thats why i figured i would try and get a heads-up about the pdk before i go for the drive, just in case someone has something profoundly negative to say about it, other than manual is the way to go, and i endup buying the thing.
anyway, i understand what your saying, and sorry for the trouble
thanks for the help everyone.

a C2S w/ PDK will certainly be in the 100K range US...I thought you were in the 60K price range. If you can swing a new 09, go for it. Too early to tell on PDk.Its brand new/ Early reports--very good
The drive says everything about the car. Seems like the 997 would be the better fit for you. The fit and finish is amazing in both cars but when I test drove a cayman I felt like it just wasn't everything. Now I'm stuck in a similar boat as you and thinking 996tt vs 997s
