A newbie question, what is the advantage of removing the Porsche Sport exhaust and replacing with aftermarket?

THe aftermarket will offer different sounds from different manufacturers. You also have the opportunity to do it in steps. mufflers, cats. headers.

I replaced my sport exhaust with the fabspeed and love it. MUCHMUCH better sound. Almost a growl when it starts. Also did the headers. Great upgrades.

I put AfterHours sport mufflers on my 996, dropped almost 40 lbs of weight and gained 11hp/12TQ across the band. Insane wicked sound, one of the louder mufflers on the market.
I also have used the Agency Power mufflers, a bit lighter than factory mufflers and nice deep tone, much better than stock.

There are a lot of choices between the above and Fabspeed / AWE / Tubi / Cargraphic / PSE etc, mostly it is a sound-only upgrade. Some of the more free-flowing aftermarket mufflers will also help boost performance a bit.

Personally, I find the stock mufflers too darn quiet for any sort of sports-car use. I like to hear the engine when I'm shifting, not really possible with the stock mufflers and LA freeway traffic.

I love My PSE and the way it sounds,For some reason I think it sounds deeper then the fabspeed and less of a tin sound.I unplugged it so it sounds good all the time.
I just ordered the K&N cold air intake and the softronic ECU flash from vivid racing.I am sure it's going to sound even better.I will let you know after the install.

Do you still hit the sport button to get the throttle mapping if you have the exhaust opened all the time?

Only when I race or going for a run on the weekends, during the week going to work I leave it off. When you disconnect it it doesn't affect the sound whether it's on or off.

What about the K&N filter. Did it change the sound of your car ?

I just ordered the softronic software as well...I had k&n on a truck and it makes for a louder cabin...went with the fabspeed tupe and cap instead.

Honestly I love the REAL porsche sport exhaust thats the one that has a sport button it has a valve in it that act as a muffler eliminator when activated, (for a street car) I recommend not replacing the mufflers if you have that feature I would just change the cats to 200 cell cats air, filter, ECU reprogram and headers preformance numbers are great and can scream with the button on and get quite to for stealth missions.
