Angry Rusty Quad Exhaust Tips, help? (pics)

Hey guys, just got a used 997 C2S with 33k miles on it. I love everything about the car, but the only thing that bugs me is that the exhaust tips are no longer the brushed silver that they originally were, but a brown-ish rusty color. Is there any way to clean that off? Thanks in advance!

Most everything needs to be cleaned once in a while. use some chrome polish / silver polish etc.

If you can't deal with the dullish look, order up some chrome ones - they do look MUCH better.

That's simple. You can use P21S wheel cleaner with OOOO steel wool. You'll then need zymol Metall to give the tips their final polish. We do this on all are higher-end details. Here are links to our site for the two product recommendation:

http://www.glisteningperfectionstore...-Kit%2C/Detail

http://www.glisteningperfectionstore...lish%2C/Detail

Here are the steps:

1. Wash the tips or wipe them down with a microfiber towel
2. Spray p21s wheel cleaner inside and around tips
3. Use a small piece of steel wool, with gloves, and begin rubbing the cleaner into the tips
4. Once you know you've cleaned the area well, wipe it off with a microfiber cloth. Repeat if necessary
5. Once the tips are clean and all the carbon deposits are removed from the inside, wipe down tips with clean microfiber that's damp with water
6. Polish with Zymol Metall, let sit for about 5 minutes, then wipe off Metall with clean microfiber towel
7. Post before and after pics on 6speed

Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks. How long does the whole process take and how long do they stay that way?

It doesn't take more than 5-10 minutes each side. As for them lasting, just maintain polishing using Metall every other month. Just remember to wipe them down after each time you wash the car and you'll never see them that bad again.

I took my tips to a ceramic shop, sand blasted to remove chrome and added ceramic mat black finish. Less than $50 for both sides.

Parents said that I'm not allowed to exceed 4500rpms. They said that it would log it every time I did. I'm not sure if it's true though... anyone know?

Hey Harvey, when you say a ceramic shop, what do you mean? Like a paint your own pottery type place? LOL I want to do this to mine but wasn't clear on where to start.
