Thumbs up AfterHours Sport Pipes installed today- Results, sick!!

Finally after waiting for like a month- the AH pipes are on!

Just took a 40 mile cruise in my pcar with Brian from AfterHours (www.afterhoursautomotive.com), I got stuck at work and was unable to go down to his shop to pick up my car. He actually drove it up to my house this evening, 20 miles away- Is that service or what??? All it cost me for the extra service was a Korean BBQ dinner and I had to drive him back (like I mind driving.. lol).

Anyway, the results. Keep in mind I had these on my 996 as well. I can say the 997 variant of these sport pipes is even nicer. Very bassy at idle, tuned sounding and authoritative through the lower range, and cup-car ripping at WOT and upper range. The slight resonance hump inside the cabin has moved down to around 2200 rpm, leaving 2500 on up very quiet inside the car.
Zero vibration, they are as smooth as stock in that respect.
Quiet at idle and cruising. I'll have no prob with these for DD.

Now, about the power. These suckers added some torque and pep!!
Driving in my usual style, I surprisingly almost broke the *** end loose pulling hard second up the freeway onramp, and easily broke the rear out pulling first (PSM took over). Before, I really had to try hard to break traction in 1st and never had to worry about losing traction in 2nd. So the added TQ is apparent.
Car seems to rev out quicker and generally pull harder at all speeds. It is very noticeable. Not like a little, but a lot. Will be putting my car on the dyno next Thursday and am looking forward to the results.

My pcar just got 5x more fun to drive

[EDIT]-------------added videos and dyno chart-----------

Dyno testing was done at Church Automotive in San Pedro area, very professional outfit and they do things "by the book", all they do is dyno testing and performance tuning.

Temp in shop was 80.4 degrees, low humidity, all runs done within an hour with car allowed to cool off a bit between the stock pulls and AH pulls.
We did two pulls in each set (two with stock and two with AH pipes). Numbers were same on both pulls with stock and same on both pulls with AH.
Only mods on car for stock and AH pulls were KN intake and RSS plenum.

997 dyno, stock vs. AH pipes:

Here was my 996 run from awhile back, for comparison's sake (stock vs AH pipes):

I want to go back and do a couple of pulls without the RSS plenum, with stock mufflers and with AH pipes to see if there is a diff. If my 997 was pulling 273TQ and 313HP at the wheels with the stock mufflers, I'd like to know if removing the RSS will have impact.

Vid is high-quality, if it stalls / buffers just rewind a bit then let play.

Here is a video closeup of the mufflers:

Hey guys- I will definitely post some vid this coming week. I wanted to put a couple hundred miles on them and see if the tone changes after they burn in a bit.

I am not familiar with the AH product, what is it? Mufflers? Cats? Headers? Complete system?

NorthVan-

They are a lightweight (8lbs) sport performance muffler, very much different than typical can-style mufflers. Sort of a tuned-length straight pipe with dual resonator sections.
The result is revviness top-end hp gains like bypass pipes, combined with backpressure / tq gains of sport mufflers. It is loud on WOT and mellow on idle / cruise with a very mean sound overall. From my experience with them on two pcars now, it is a seriously good mod for under a grand. It is a noticeable improvement.

The only downside is a bit of interior resonance in the 2000-2200 range on 997, and 3000-3200 range on 996. I don't think it is bad at all, but some people may complain who prefer bone-stock quiet mufflers like PSE.
For those who tried bypass pipes and like the revviness but hate the headache, these are a godsend! For those who have tried the usual available mufflers and felt they were just not sporty enough, these would be a superb choice. You also do not need to mess with cats or headers with the AH pipes since they are designed to work well with the factory cats / headers.

Check out all details at www.afterhoursautomotive.com, you'll find some vids of them on my 996 in my sig link below. Brian, the owner of AfterHours is a really knowledgeable guy with tuning performance and a ton of experience under his belt. If you have questions just give him a call, super cool guy.

Any pictures? (sorry just saw the link)

Sound like a decent set-up but the resonance you mentioned reminds me of the too bee on my 360!+

Very nice sound. Not offensive at all. I like how it set off a car alarm in the video!!!

sweet set up. First exhaust system that's bang for the buck with power gains. I'm seriously contemplating this exhaust. Light weight and affordable. If the power gains are real (not to say it isn't, I'm a skeptic) this will the best system hands down in my book. I checked out the video. You setting off the car alarm was classic. Korean BBQ, mmmmmm. Good taste in food as well . I'm going to place an order for this as soon as I take care of my three boys' dental needs. I'm on a budget .
Cheers and congrats on a good find.

^ Hey bud, since you are in Irvine you should call Brian and roll by his shop, talk to him 1st hand.

You know how it is with dynos showing performance gains, every car is different and "YMMV", depends on your current setup, condition of motor, etc etc.
Speaking from experience only with my 996 and now my 997, the gains have been very noticeable. My 996 dyno chart is on the afterhours site, when I dyno my 997 next week I'll be sure to post it here.

Other mods and results so far on my 997:

KN intake = no perceptable gain, good sound though. Great mod for the $.

RSS plenum = very minor gain in the mid band, may be more due to ECU adaptation since my driving habits became much more "sportier" around this time. Not sure if I would pay full pop for this mod.
Excellent service from RSS, nice guys indeed. Part quality, fit and finish is top notch.

AH pipes = good gain off the line, through mid and on top. Car feels like it just drank a can of Jolt cola. Can't beat this mod for the price. $50 discount to all forum members, just ask at time of order. Hand made and top quality materials / workmanship.

EVO SSK = good quality part, shifts smoothly, not too short. Worth the price.

H&R springs = aesthetics only. poor handling response over 80mph due to under-damped stock shocks. Only do this if you get the HR springs for practically free and just need a "hold over" until proper coilovers can be purchased.

Front / Rear spacers = A must-do upgrade with factory wheels. Automotion has the HR track plus spacers and bolts at a good price, ask for 20% off and you'll get it.

Oh, BTW- If any of you guys love korean BBQ and are up in the LA area, check out "Mana" Korean BBQ buffet on Olympic blvd, four blocks west of Western blvd.
$16 all you can eat, they bring massive plates of marinated rib-eye strips and you cook it up at your table. Plus all the small side dishes and salad. Can't beat it!!
Get there before 6:30pm or it is a madhouse / long wait!

Last one I had was in Korea!

BTW, if there is a resonance in that system it can easily be corrected but it has to be done in the manufacturing stage.

Often times in exhaust design the simple things are overlooked.

The primary silencer should be two units separated by a few inches of pipe. It will then cause the primary harmonics to be slightly more out of phase to cause a bit of cancellation which should cure the latent harmonics heard w/in the vehicle.

No, this is not Austin Powers lingo!!!

^ you are absolutely correct, they appear to be designed in this manner. For a straight pipe they are actually pretty quiet.

I did notice that. However, the in-car resonance can be corrected.

Is the 997 a flat plane crank? If yes it could explain the reduced silencer size.

Look at an OEM 360 muffler and an OEM 430 muffler. The 430 muffler is 1/3 rd the size of the 360 muffler due to the balanced harmonics of the flat plane crank.
