I have both. the 800 has only on and off, all you need. Works the same. If you need it for a bike, the 3300 has a setting for that. still 12 volt so I don't know why you need it. Hope this helps.

Porsche PET shows the same part number for the 996 and 997 batteries so I would assume the Walmart MAXX 94R would be a direct replacement for your 04 C4S too.

+1 for CTEK. I went with the 7002 (~$110 from Amazon) with cigarette lighter adapter ($11 from CTEK).

Silly Question. I assume that when you charge via lighter, the other end gets pluged into a wall socket. How do you close the car door?

There should be a notch on the rubber seal at the bottom of the passenger door - just run your cable there.
