Reading Data format

So over the weekend, one of my porsche buddies at a local meet showed me how his unit in his '06 read data format from his CD-R. Ended up, that this feature did not work in my '05. Does anyone know anything about this and if it is jst an update or all together feature not functional in earlier models??

You may need to update the PCM software to play MP3s. My dealer did it for free per a TSB and I can play MP3s now.

Are you asking about playing home rolled MP3 disks, or more general data CD-R's?

I thought the early PCM's could not be software upgraded to play MP3's.
It was my understanding that the PCM needed to be replaced with a newer unit.
This was the experience of a friend, also.
