Cars and Coffee with GMG last Saturday, plus some R888 vs Cup talk.
Yet another reason that the Cali car scene can't be beat (remember, I live in the mountains of North Carolina!) is Cars and Coffee. The one I went to was in LA with Fabryce and Ryan with GMG. It was a great morning. Amazing cars were all around, from just about all types of car fanaticism.
By the way (and I don't even think I told Fabryce this), after Cars and Coffee in LA, I drove up PCH to San Fran and one of my rear tires popped. Brand new Michelin Cups. In these pics, they are too small anyway: 295s. Fabryce hooked me up with some spacers, but it still doesn't look right.
Now, I'm running 315 Toyo R888s. After thrashing half a dozen sets of Cups and never trying something else (for the street, that is. I use slicks for the track), I can now say that the R888s are a far better tire. They are much creamier on release. They handle camber smoother and with less nervousness (I run a negative 3.2 degrees all around), and are much happier rotating the tail. I feel like I can slide the car better, and plant the car better too. The tire just tells you what's going on. AND, they're cheaper and look cooler. BUT they have more road noise.
Anyway, here's some pics. This Carrera GT has the brand new GMG exhaust on it too. I heard it fire up at first, and it was NASTY GOOD.
Enjoy! (Remember, I don't have these skinny tires any more. It also raised the back up JUST a bit to have a better stance with the 315s. I'll get pics of that up soon.)

I have the MPSC on my car for the track and have also had Yokohama 048's, the R888 is very similar to the 048, and I know what you mean about road noise.
I have asked about the R888 when compared to the MPSC and I am told that the MPSC is a faster tire, but will wear quicker then the R888 and 048.
I am going to tow my car to the track next season and I am thinking of trying the Hoosier R6 for dry, I am not sure what to run in the wet.

I could only imagine the amount of grip that slicks provide. I get excellent grip from the MPSC's and I know that there is better solutions.
Yeah man. You MUST have a limited slip or you will break something. But slicks are mind bending, with the right setup, for sure.

Sorry to hear about the tire going out on ya, but at least it worked out better in the end. Your car shows very well in the pics.
What do you guys think of Conti SC2 0r 3's? I have a set of SC2's on my TAs and have been impressed so far for DD. Grip well, feel predictable and very quiet. I haven't had them long enough to evaluate wear quickness.

The only way they could make these better is if it was Cars, Coffee and Chicks and they had scantily clad hot chicks (like the kind found in the MANLY thread) hanging around for us to ogle with the cars.
Shoot, I would even pay to attend events like that! Hopefully one of you guys who runs these events listens and adds this to the mix. I know my wife would hate it, but she wouldn't have to go with - which is why she probably would.

I have SC3s on my Avus 20s. 305/20ZR-20 on the rear (fronts are actually Pirellis... another long crazy tire story). So I have a limited opinion on them, other than that they seem to last forever. I actually tracked this setup at VIR once, because I was driving by and didn't even know that there was a track day going on. So I drove in, ran, and drove out... all on 20s. The tires are pretty quiet, they last a long time (compared to MPSC which is what I'm used to), and all that. A decent tire. I'd take them before Pirellis.
