Help me price my 05 997S

2005 997S
34k miles
Black/Black
No sport chrono or nav
Adaptive Sport Seats
Bose
Fabspeed exhaust/evoms tips

Looked at KBB, NADA, and Edmunds and prices seem all over the place. Even the dealer has taken 3 days and doesn't have a trade-in bid for me. I look in Autotrader and there isn't a Carrera S within 500 miles (seattle) under $60K, yet on ebay, looks like the bottom end wholesale for the same car w/ 40k miles is $51k. The crap economy probably has something to do with this, but I don't really have a baseline except what I see in Autotrader and eBay.

What do you guys think I can get for trade-in or private party?

I would say $50k would be pretty good. Base '05 997's should realistically be going for high $40's right now at dealership, +$5-7k for S, -$3-5k for trade-in/private sale.

Yikes - so best case, since I have an S, is $53k private party? I have to believe I can get more than that....

Makes me dread what the dealer comes back with on trade!!!

For context, I bought an '06 C2S @ 24k miles w/ power+heated seats, chrono, and nav for $61k in September. And I think prices have come off ~$5k since then given that 1.) global financial turmoil has panicked buyers 2.) winter is around the corner so there are seasonally very few buyers 3.) dealer floorplan financing costs have been stubbornly high despite Federal Reserve intervention.

So assuming I got a "bargain" that means '06 C2S prices are in the $57-60k range. And you gotta take at LEAST a $5k haircut for being a year older (and consequently higher miles / less remaining warranty).

try $55k and see how many bites you get?

minimal bites over a few weeks and lower the price accordingly.

These guys usually price their stuff close to what they would sell the car at. So an 06 S with only 10k and my guess is that they would sell it for $60k. It means they took it in for low 50's.

Or this 06 S Cab with 8 k miles for $62

It's a nightmare if you are a seller. I think your trade in value will be in the mid 4's.

Hmm - thanks guys. My options are probably limited I guess. Local dealership said they'd consign and would give me $56k. Guess I should take that. Maybe the market is different up here in Seattle? No 997S under 60k within 500 miles...

I would definitely take that and run! Are you trading in? They may be making their money on the sell side ...

It's an illiquid market w/ a decent number of buyers who "don't want to think about it" and assume whatever their dealer offers is "roughly fair." But believe me, I can't envision a dealer giving you much more than $58k, no matter how optimistic they were about their ability to quickly flip it for $60k.

If the dealer takes it on consignment, you really have no idea what you will really get for it. And you usually pay a fee so some dealers lure you in with a price they think they can get which is not realistic.

As for not finding any cars within 500 mile of you under 60 k, in this market, there is a big difference in what people are asking and what they eventually get. There are always a couple of people who actually price their cars close to what they will actually get for them and I provided you with two examples of cars above who are one year younger and have much lower miles. One is even a cab. I would take about 10k off for your car versus these two. Everyone has the right to optimistic but you asked for input!

Oh i skimmed the post and didn't realize that was on consignment.

Yeah . . . I would expect less than $56k . . .

I'm definitely looking for the hard truth, so thanks to everyone.

It's not on consignment yet, but a local dealer said they could give me 56k. I tried consigning before and it has never worked, so I'm not optimistic. Frankly, I'd like to just sell to an enthusiast for a 2-4k below that and get my RS4.

Maybe that's unrealistic.....

If you can get $56k jump on it.

For reference I just purchased through a 3rd party dealer (i.e., not a Porsche Dealer), the following car. And by "just purchased" I mean on 11/7/2008:

2006 Porsche Carrera S Coupe
Midnight Blue/Savannah Beige
Tiptronic
Nav
Sport Chrono
Heated Seats
PASM
6 Disc Changer
BOSE
Power Seat Package
28,000 miles

$54k

Why would you sell your car at the most difficult resale period in years to buy an RS4 ?

It's almost a double whammy . Do you remember months ago when the 08 inventory was low and the 09's hadn't arrived --that was the time to sell it . It was also before the stock market tumble .

Keep your car . Just wait a little --you can't possibly be suffering with a 997S . Timing is everything.

No chance for getting $55K for your car. No Chrono or Nav. with higher miles and a warranty about to expire. You will have a hard time getting $50K. I know you think I'm crazy and pessimistic but you will see.
