Looking at the parts list for the X51 I didn't see the oil pan listed as being different. There is a skid plate that can be had but no change that I see for the oil pan.

Suncoast has this pan, part seems to be from 996.xxx series but works with minor mods to M97 motor.

I just didnt know if the stock pan had baffles like this one.

996 vs. 997 X51 kit is completely different. As far as the baffles are concerned I don't know that.

The 997S has a plastic baffle system somewhat similar to the x51 metal one. I should have taken pictures last time I had one out of the car.

I had my X51 retrofitted at my local dealer when it had 3000 miles. I have a 2006 Carrera S. I have the complete parts list at home and in no instance was there a different oil pan specified. My car still has the same oil pan it came with. The kit was very comprehensive and indistinguishable from the factory. It has a third radiator with hardware, new carbon fiber intake, headers, aluminum intake manifold, bigger throttle body, different cylinder heads and ECU programming. It had no oil pan and I later called the dealer, as I also saw how Suncoast advertises it for the 997, to see if I missed a different oil pan as part of the X51 kit for the 997, and they didn't find any differently numbered part at all in the system. Now, I know Porsche made an X51 kit for the 3.6 996 in the USA but I am not aware if this oil pan is for the 3.6 996 or if it is for the 3.4 996, whose X51 Powerkit NEVER made it to the USA, even though Porsche did sell parts of it as an upgraded oiling kit for3.4 L cars in the USA. Maybe those X51 oil pans Suncoast sells are for the 3.4 or 3.6 kits and are compatible with the 997 with modifications. I would say not to bother buying it for the 997s, IMHO.

Thanks CG, just the info I was looking for. I suspect now that the 3.6 may have no baffles. Glad to know the 3.8 does.

BTW, I had an '87 911 for ten years. Wish I still had it.

There is no 997 X51 oil pan. What you are thinking of is the 996 X51 oil pan that some people retro fit on to the 997. The 996 X51 pan has baffles to help keep oil near the pick up and in one place under high G loads. This is not a direct bolt on typ eof deal and there is some grinding to get it to fit. Suncoast Porsche in Sarasota and Vortex Motorsports in Tampa sells these and does installs. I am sure other Porsche dealers know about this along with other high end Porsche race shops.

Yes, the 996 X51 pan baffle is too tall to fit in the 997 motor. You have to cut it down in a few places for it to clear everything (easy with a die grinder and a lot of cutting, test fitting, cutting, test fitting, etc until it fits). Not rocket science, but about the only gain you will get is that the new x51 pan will have a metal baffle versus the plastic stock baffle.

Yep, my local club, Suncoast PCA did an article on this retro fit back in the summer. I have also read about some sort of spacer that can be used to make the pan a little deeper to hold another quart of oil.

Look on page 12 http://www.suncoastpca.org/forum/showthread.php?t=237.
