Oil consumption

Has anyone experienced a drop in oil after the first couple thousand miles....I have seen about half a quart loss after 2k.

That's about normal for a C2S depending upon weather and driving style.

Definitely normal. I remember the same thing happening to mine when it was new. No worries.

I've read plenty of threads about 997 oil consumption over the past few years stating 1/2 to 1 qt. every couple of thousand miles was 'normal'. I bought my 997 w/ approx. 9K miles. I changed the oil when I got the car and now have close to 16K miles and I'm happy to report that I still have full bars (no oil consumption to speak of).

I think the 'norm' might be little to no oil consumption in the water cooled versions. I suspect aggressive driving and/or track usage plays a part; higher temps and all.

I'd like to see a 'poll' of this matter so the 'norm' can be established over a larger sample.

This subject has been beaten to death on the 6speed and rennlist forums & probably every other late model Porsche forum. Please do a search before starting yet another thread about this issue.

1/2 quart is not a problem, my last p car 997C2Scab that I purchased from a broker with 1000 miles was burning oil like having a constant leak; at first champion said it was normal, until I went to the service dept and showed them the soot on one pie and not the other. Turned out the cylinders were not cylindrical, off by a couple of mm on 3 of the six. Well champion did the rigth thing and actually changed out the engine, following that there were no problems. Sometimes you have to be forward with your concerns..On my second p car C4S cab and lovin it, no oil issues. What you are experiencing appears to be normal.
