A few mods for the 997

I posted these on the 997TT/GT2 forum, but thought I'd share with my sibblings:

Two interior changes on my 997TT...originally ordered with a lot of performance do dads, but pretty minimal interior add ons. Originally, only had gear trim above the shifter, center console, and center storage lid in leather...I've recently added the dome light cover and steering cover in leather, and have leather visors and door side sill covers in leather on the way.

The steering column cover is deceptively difficult...
Upper cover is very easy - T10 Torx driver, two screws at the bottom, and the top cover pivots up. For bluetooth users, you can easily install a mic in here.

Once the top unit is up, detach clips holding the vinyl covering, detach the microphone and it comes off.

The bottom is a royal PITA. One T10 Torx screw and one plastic clip - ended up destroying the cable tie mount to get the lower cover off.

Anyways - here it is...

Dome light cover:

First, remove the old dome light cover.

1. Pry out homelink buttons...there are a pair...one for the LED and button 1, and one for buttons 2 and 3. If the button falls apart, don't worry...they are easy to reassemble. No screw drivers...just my fingernail was enough to pry them off.

2. Then, unscrew the two phillips head screws...

3. Disconnect the lighting panel, and pull down on the dome light cover. Next, disconnect the homelink wiring harnesses (2) and sunroof harness. Transfer the sunroof button to the new dome light cover, and reverse the process.

Total time = 10 minutes...and I was going extra slow and careful.

I purchased them from SunCoast - one of 6speed's sponsors. Excellent service, OEM'ed from Porsche in Germany, and then shipped here. A little pricey, and some parts require a VIN from a authorized vehicle that originally had the part, but it is worth the wait.
