997.2 - first 500 miles - I'm amazed

I've owned every possible configuration of 996s and 997s including my most recent car, an unmodded 997 turbo that I put about 23000 miles on before trading it in on a '09 997.2 S.

For those of you who are waiting for your car to arrive or are on the fence about moving from an earlier version of the water cooled Porsches, I just want to say that the 997.2 is no simple refresh. The magazines have said this, but then they focused on features like the DFI and PDK.

I ordered what I considered to be a car for "pure" driving pleasure - manual trans, sport shifter, adaptive seats, thicker steering wheel, sport suspension wth LSD, sportchrono. I expected some improvements but I wasn't prepared for how much the overall driving experience is improved. It is simply amazing. The overall car is more refined (for example, less unwanted road noise and tire roar) , while at the same time the feedback from suspension and the steering is just plain fantastic. The 20mm lower sport suspension is quite comfortable even in the sport setting.

Do I miss the power of the turbo? Not really, because the new car has so much mid range punch that only when you're really getting on the gas does an unmodded turbo feel that much quicker, and the instantaneous response of the new N/A engine is so fantastic.

Porsche really has moved their game forward.

Thank you for the update. I am really surprised that 997.2 compares well with 997TT. I would like to test drive the PDK.
