"Launch cars" 09 997.2

I stopped by the local P dealership and learned a little today . For starters many of the cars which came on the first load were called "launch cars" . They had 4 white/grey C2's with PDK and a few Green cars . The C4S meteor pdk also came up because it's my favorite of the first crop .

Here's some info :
1) Most of the first C2S cars did not have axle lock but it can be ordered and as cars come in they expect to see them .
2) the C4S has axle lock standard .
3) Price has climbed a tad --even on the Turbo when equipped with techno gadgets .
4) Sport chrono is a MUST with PDK!!!
5) They had a few 08 leftover cars

My informal survey asked about PDK -- 100 percent loved it however I pressed further with this question --"Do you think that after the intitial test drive thrill subsides that with time the novelty would erode ? In short would you marry the PDK ? " About 1/2 said yes and the other half would miss the manual.

The place was packed with customers . It was hard to see even a spec of a down economy hanging around on a Friday afternoon . I had a blast driving my car today . Since I had been driving the M3 mostly lately I was so happy to be back in my Turbo for along hearty thrill ride .

I took delivery of my 997S.2 on September 27th. I ordered it with the LSD which is part of the lowered stance SPORT PASM pkg...not to be confused with the regular PASM.

I ordered it back in July so that I would get it as soon as possible. My dealer (Phil @ Bert Smith) was awesome and did not require any money down and said he would do everything possible to make it work with my 07 997S trade in. He was unbelieable and worked it all out. He let me order the car just like I wanted. I wanted all sport no luxury. I would have got the BUCKET sport seats but they sit to high up with no adjustment up or down and I did not fit in them...damn it!

C2S
Guards Red
PDK
Sport Chrono PLUS
-20mm Sport Suspension PASM
Limited Slip Diff Lock
Center Console Red
Red Seat Belts

NO BOSE
NO NAV
NO POWER SEATS
NO HEATED OR AIR COOLED SEATS
NO TURNING LIGHTS

2375 miles and lovin' it! Off to Sebring for a track event next Saturday. I just got my oil changed, brake fluid changed out to the better Motul 600 and a alignment. WOW was the factory alignment off. The alignment has been way off on all 3- 997S cars I've had...way off.

Here is my current perfect alingment:
FRONT
-1.4 camber
.02 degress toe

REAR
-1.6 camber
.14 toe

Being a musician...work in the music industry and very picky about my sound...I thought so too. However the stock stereo sounds better than Bose. The low end on the Bose is very un-natural and boomy and lacks punch in the 63-100hz range. The Bose high end is shrill in the lower treble range at around 4-6khz. The Bose mids are rather thin and not very warm sounding.

The stock stereo is more natural sounding in the 2009. It could use some more sub lows but the car is so noisy inside I rarely listen anyway and it is just casual listening. I could easily just do a speaker upgrade in the doors for a lot less than Bose and then sound would be even better than Bose.

The head unit is still touch screen and works just like if you had Bose. The stock stereo can play very loud and still be very clear. Just as loud as the Bose appears to play.

Plus I am saving a lot of weight because there is no heavy subwoofer in the rear.

I agree, especially the extra weight.

Mdrums - Is the factory system different in 09 than the previous gen 997 cars ?
I ask this only because I only rode in one car non Bose --an 05 997 C2 .

I am not happy with the Bose either for many of the reasons you list . My M3 system blows away the Bose and from what I hear the Mark Levinson in Lexus is tops (I never heard it ) from factory .

One poster on the 997tt forum tried istalling Reus but his installation was problematic so I have simply kept the Bose and accept it .

docjackson1 is infamous around these parts
a large amount, if not most, of the initial launch cars with pdk seem to have been racing green without nav. i understand why mdrums doesn't want any comfort frills, but the green color can be a bit tough. the combo of green and no nav is probably not that desireable to a lot of buyers. most dealers seem to be chock full of these pag coded cars. when i was looking for an in stock 09 turbo, i found a dealer in north carolina who had a green 09 turbo-he really wanted to deal (early sept 09), the great trade in and big discount that he was offering was really tempting, but the green color was just a bit too hard to take, so i passed on that car-but maybe i was wrong-who knows.

Yep --the "S" launch was green . The base was white (they had several) , the C4S was meteor, and the Targa 4S was macadamia . There was also cream for the cab I think -- I did not pay close attention with the cabs.
