Smile My Alignment

OK, I have had 3- 997S cars since 2006 and all were WAY OFF with their alignment. Since I ocassional track the car I want the best handling and tire wear possible. I take my cars to Bob at Vortex Motorsports (formerly Dave Whites Racing) in Tampa, FL for my alignments and other things. They specialize in Porsche.

Here are the BEFORE specs on my stock from the Porsche factory alignment which are out of Porsche specs!

FRONT
Left -.4 Camber -.17 Toe
Right -.7 Camber +.10 Toe

REAR
Left -1.6 Camber +.23 Toe
Right -1.9 Camber +.13 toe

Here is the AFTER specs, which I had max front camber dialed in for ocasional track use. Also the car drives so much better!

FRONT
Left -1.3 Camber +.02 Toe
Right -1.4 Camber +.02 Toe

REAR
Left -1.6 Camber +.14 Toe
Right -.16 Camber +.14 Toe

I have the lower Sport Suspension PASM which is lower than the stock PASM. This is an option with the 2009 Carrera S.

My 2006 and 2007 Carrera S had the stock PASM...Euro sport PASM was not availble in the USA then...and the best I could get was -1 on those cars.

What's the difference with race allignment and getting an allignment for regular use, and does this race allignment hinder regular driving, not track use.

that is hardly a race alignment but a good agressive street alignment...should turn in better and be stable at high speed without too much inside edge wear on the tires...good alignment for street tires...btw...it seems that all P-cars come with lousy alignments...my GT3 was way off and had one drop link loose and another not even connected....

that would probably be a good choice...some S.Fl guys could probably give you some other choices...a good corner balance and alignment shouldn't be more than $200 by a race shop...

1carnut is infamous around these parts
I have found that that whether it is a Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, or Lambo after driving on the crap roads in my area I have to have my cars aligned every six months.

Can't corner balance 997's. Ride height is not adjustable.

I had real problems with the GT3 until I put adjustable toe arms and locking plates on the rear eccentrics...since then it holds an alignment pretty well...

pardon me while I show my ingorance here...that sucks! However, on the other side of the coin...the car came from the factory with a good corner balance and a lousy alignment..so the 997 is probably pretty well balanced as it comes...
