997S Audio Question

Hey guys, i just picked up my first porsche ever. Love it. Now there is this cable that is coming out of the dashboard, its an auxillary cable. The dealer told me its from the factory ... but it says radioshack on the tip .... i told him i doubt there is a radioshack in germany, anyways. does anyone know how i can use this? cause i have tried everything to figure this out. below are the pictures. thanks.

I bet it's an AUX input to the stereo. You can use it with an outboard source, such as an MP3 player. You just need to figure out how to select the input for that AUX source.

Of course it's not factory. The previous owner put it in.

You might try selecting the external CD Changer and see if that works....

Congrats on the car! I would get rid of the AUX cable and get a Dension or Mobridge. Sucks that they drilled a hole in the lower storage tray.

Here's my suggestion.

Remove that mickey mouse wire/plug!

If you want to add more sources (ie. IPOD or USB) to your audio put in the Dension GW500.

Press the track number on the number key pad to select a track. Press and hold 1-6 to select disc 1-6 if you have a CD changer.

i wouldnt mind knowing how to run an aux input like that. I think its much easier navigation my music with the ipod than with the pcm interface.

my GMC has a small box that goes between the factory head unit and the 1/8" jack.

I agree. I wish my car had that aux input cable available. I could play my portable XM radio through it. If I knew how to wire it to the PCM, I'd put one in too.

Goto www.bumperplugs.com and look at the iPod integration units that they have. Quite a few people have used them and find them very easy to use.

I recently installed the Denison GW5000 and am very happy with it. Do a search on the forum under Denison and you'll see plenty of feedbacks.

May be an FM modulator. Plug in i-pod or mp3 device and tune through the FM band till it plays. See if there is a hidden on/off switch somewhere.
