Opinions, please - 997.2 or 997 S?

Two cars - one is the 2009 911 with Sport Chrono and a list of other options I like. The other is a 2008 911S with Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, and other options that mimic the 2009.

Both are the same price. Which would you go with, and why? Thanks.

Are they both new?
I like the new engine - it has the promise of eliminating a lot of the issues with the prior engine's reliability.
Having said that, the S with PSE is nice.

That's a nice problem/choice to make. I'd probably go with the S; it's more dedicated to sport.

Could you please compare and contrast them, and share some insight on your choice of the '09?

Thanks!

You have to ask yourself if paying the extra for the 09 is worth it. The 08 can probably be had for much cheaper.

As far as reliability, its too early to tell if the new engine will or will not have a host of its own problems. Also, from a reliability standpoint, the post 2005 3.8 in the S has proven itself over and over already despite what you may read on internet chat forums. Even the issues with the 05 built 3.8's are few.

I would buy a slightly used 2007 with lots of options.

I am not a big fan of the sound of a direct injection motor

You should be able to get a 08 for much less than the 09.

But if they were the same price ..... I might go with the 09.

They have the same HP, but the 09 will get better mileage and have a better resale value.

There are some great deals on some 07 C2S though, you should look around.

Guys, read his thread. He is comparing a 997.2 C2 with a 997 C2S at the same price.

Given that both will have similar acceleration, I will opt for the new 997.2 C2 for the new look, better nav, bluetooth, ipod, etc. I will not worry about the new engine at all as you have 4 years of warranty to cover any problems.

I promise you that the 08, if its new and on the show room floor, is cheaper than the 997.2 despite what the sticker says. The dealer will let the 08 997S go for much less.

This is a very bad thread . You know what you really want and that's the 997.2 "S" . No matter what you do with yoir two choices you are sinking 80+ K and settling a car which is about 6K less than the RIGHT one .

My vote --Neither car . Wait and get the 09 "S".

Thanks, all. I appreciate the comments. I'll let you know which way I go. Being indecisive about this is not a bad place to be, all things considered.

Clearly folks are not reading the original question. I'll try and help out though. I just went through this decision, and in the end it was an easy choice for the 2009 Standard Carrera. Just 10hp shy of the '08 S, and all the new goodies. I ordered my car with P17 sport PASM and Limited Slip. That alone was a big draw for me.

In the end, there is no "wrong" choice here. I much preferred the2009 car, which I hope to have in my hands in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Michael
