No Targa Fans here...

As you can see, there are few, if any, Targa fans here. I agree with the comments about resale values, extra weight and softer suspension, but the coupe fans say the same things about the C4's and the Cabs. Everyone has their preferences. As for the Targa, think of it as a Porsche with big sun roof and lot's of the other issue go away. Lot's of advantages particularly if you plan to use it as a daily driver or plan to take long trips. The hatchback will come in handy as well. Test drive all three versions with similar engines back to back to back and buy the one that you like the best.

casaforte9 is infamous around these parts
I am not into convertibles due to the big drafts, lotsa wind noise but more than that I can feel the structure not being as solid as a coupe and all the creaking from weather changes. There is also lots of wnd noise on convertible tops on highways

How are targas with respect to creakins and rattles, a memeber mentioned that his was rattling a lot. I was assuming it will be solid like a coupe

The Targa intrigues me as a DD and GT car. I would like to drive one to see how open it feels vs the cab.
AWD is not a real need here in the south. If I still lived up north, makes some sense to me.
Good luck with the purchase. Hell I would like one of each.

If you listen to this bunch you will end up buying just what they bought. Be an individual and ignore the whiners here who would have you buy a black/black C2S Coupe with black HRE wheels (with polished lip!) and a knock-off GT3 body kit - and btw get thinking about lowering and ordering a S/C kit...

If you like the Targa then buy one, and to hell with the masses who would have you look just like them.

Well stated Dadio. There are few of us Targa fans here, because there are few Targa owners in general. It is a car that appeals to a smaller cross section, and therefore much fewer are manufactured.
I expect that many of those that keep knocking its extra weight in the wrong places etc. likely carry extra weight in the wrong places on their own bodies, and buy power seats, CD changers, heavy factory wheels, etc. ... all of which add similar excess weight to their cars. The extra weight in the Targas is somewhat overblown, and is insignificant in real world driving, and might only affect avid track fans who want to beat everyone else. All I know is that the instructors that rode with me on an Autocross course had huge smiles on their faces when I crossed the finish line. The Targa is no slouch, and any extra pounds are easily compensated for with better driving skills.

The 997 was designed as a cab first, the rigidity of the cab is excellent. The Targa is a glass roof on a cab body. The Targa 4S is an excellent car, it is the best of all worlds. As Ken said the weight is not that big a deal, the extra weight of 20" wheels most like has a more significant impact on the performance of a 997 then the Targa option.

If you like the Targa, buy one enjoy it and worry about any of the possible negative problems (resale) when the come up.
