iphone for porsche

I need an iphone adaptor for my 997. I bought a belkin one at apple today but it was too big and it shorted out and blew my fuse also. Who makes a charger for our cars?

Our cars accessory plug is no different then any other cars. If your fuse went there are other problems that you should be looking for.

i dont believe that is true. I heard that the Belkin plug is too long, and our socket is too shallow to allow for normal adapters. I tired to plug in the adapter in my 997 and it would not fit, i tried it in my F250 and it fit fine.

what gives?

oh, i think the blown fuse happened because all of the contact points didnt make contact with the belkin iphone plug so it just shorted it out. I thought my cig lighter was broken too, but thank god for these forums, it was just a blown fuse, seems to be pretty common when people try to use aftermarket goodies in there. The manual acutally says to NOT use it for anything but the compressor and the lighter

The compressor likely draws more current than anything else you would ever plug in to the power socket. I have plugged in radar detectors, GPS devices, cell phone chargers, etc. and have not had any problems. The trouble with the power outlets in the Porsche is that they are not switched on with the ignition. They are always on. I added a circuit from my fuse panel using one of the vacant switched positions in row C, 5th position from the left side of box. It is the one with the red wire. You can buy these "add a circuit" fuses from auto supply places like Pep Boys. You'll have to ground one of your wires, and run the power to this fused red wire.

IF you are looking for a charging cradle, I bought a Carcomm iphone 3g cradle from Expansys-usa. I put a Kuda leather mount (they offer them in porsche interior colors). I was able to hide the cable behind the trim and plugged into accessory outlet in passenger footwell. Not hard-wired or integrated but clean stealthy look.

Yes. Both the Kuda Mount and Carcomm Cradle are very well made. I had a different (cheaper) cradle before that looked similar but was a piece of junk. Not alot of choices for the 3G. I was really just looking for a charger that gave me easy access to the phone. I use the built in PCM phone for most calls and forward my Iphone to it when I am going to be in the car for any extended period.
