Fifth Gear Tests 997.2 Claims
As others have said, the PDK is cool but after owning a DCT M3, its not for me. The motor is impressive, I am sure it feels faster but that is not enough for me to trade up right now. I feel like the 997.2 is probably a great car for someone coming from a 996 but the evolution gap is not quite big enough for me right now.

I love the new 997S but I just don't know where it would fit into my life at this time . In the meantime .. I look at it and smile.

Actually forget about the 6speed or PDK... the changes in the car with the engine and suspension, especially the Sport PASM w/LSD is a big improvement. Also the luxury items like the touch screen, ipod intergration and so forth is nice.
Add to this beautiful package, LSD w/ a tighter, lower suspension and all of the other interior refinements, along with the exterior changes (which I like very much) and it becomes quite a leap forward for a mid-life model change.
I'm sure Porsche could have gotten 400 ponies from this model, but considering that the 991 is due in two and one-half years and will very likely be another boxer six, it seems that they had to save some room for more power. The current 6 banger must be somewhat close to its' limitations; GT3 type engine aside.

I test drove the EVO X MR w/ twin clutch a few months, and after 30 seconds, I said to myself I had to have this car. Then drove home the car the same day. All I want now is a C2S Cab w/ PDK. Can someone please offer me some money for my turbocharged Lotus Elise so that I can go buy that C2S Cab???
Quite an amazing car really. A 997 C2S PDK on comp tires took top time of the day recently at Streets of Willow against some well driven, well prepared race cars, Lambos, 997TTs, GT3s, 993TTs etc. Whew! Good show.
I am a pragmatist. I currently drive a stick because I want to always be in the right gear when performance driving. If a car can select the right gear better/faster than me I gladly defer that duty to the most highly qualified. I have no love of rowing gears.

End of power as we know it
So look at paying more money for less weight to achieve better performance. Frankly if Porsche could hack out 1000 kg's from the weight of the 911 and cut engine size to 3 liters and 300 hp, that would be the one to take in a heartbeat. The current car is more Porker than Porsche and doesn't need anymore weight or it will become Jaba the Hut's poster car.
Rather than more hp start getting used to the idea of less weight. Audi, BMW and Mercedes are already cutting back on capacity of engines, looking at more forced induction, but much much more importantly looking at weight savings to improve performance.

Of COURSE that would be a boon to performance. Want to experience it? Go buy a 'busa!
