Fifth Gear Tests 997.2 Claims
It's not
It's not, it's an automatic gearbox...
Its is not an automatic gear box like you might be thinking it is. There is no torque converter and it does not act or shift like a auto tranny.
It is a a dual clutch transmission. It shifts very fast and more like a sequential transmission. You can shift the car either with the stick like you would a sequential transmission of via the steering wheel paddles.

Understand that

And that's my issue with it too. Porsche did a poor job of designing the interface. They made it more complicated than it needed to be, just so they could be different from every manufacturer that had adopted the simplest solution, namely paddle shifters.
Hopefully somebody like Ruf or TechArt will make a lot of money by offering the simpler solution with a paddle shifter kit.
I wonder which part of the PDK design is most disliked? The placement of the paddles or the direction you have the pull/push in changing gears? First for the placement, I tried it at the LA Auto Show but I don't seem to mind that, and as to the pull for going down the gears and pushing for going up, if one doesn't like that I wonder if the wires on the wiring harness can be reversed to reverse the push/pull functions?
But like I stated before, if the PDK can shift just like you would have shifted yourself, then there wouldn't be any need to touch the paddles would there?
