Mods on a leased Porsche?

Does anyone know what types of mods you can do in a lease? I'm currently in a 996 C4S (no mods) but am getting a 997.2 C4S in April and want to put on a rear spoiler (as a 1st step). Will this be an issue when my lease is up?

Well you're not "supposed" to do mods on any of these cars but the general rule of thumb is if you return the car in the same state you got it i.e. stock then it's going to be fine when you turn it in. So do "bolt-ons" and nothing too permanent.

I would get to know your service department. I know a guy that has an AWE exhaust system on his leased Porsche and he is a salesman at the dealership.

Exactly, exhaust, intakes etc... that sort of stuff is all bolt-on and so easily re-installed.

the problem with that approach is that the leasing company is seldom the dealer and they will not approve of any mods...

Exactly... keep your stock parts... do only "bolt-on" style things and return it to stock. Or... leave it stock!

Alex, it is a car. Everything can be turned back to it's stock form. Look at Jared's (blaktout) car.

You should be ok with bolt ons that dont need replacing.

I modded my ML a little and I ended up giving it back modded but they didnt complain nor charge me for returning it in that way, I think as long as its not tacky and it wont prohibit them re-selling the car.

I think it was "ok" as some mbz dealerships sell brabus too.

sorry...no tagged/watermarked images outside of photography section unless a sponsor

Even more of a reason to buy vs lease. If he creates something special he will want to keep it.

Bolt on parts are not a problem provided you return the car to stock when you turn in the lease. Something as small as a spoiler is a pretty benign upgrade so I don't foresee any problems.

Hey - thanks everyone for the help. This is my first action on the forum but have been reading it for a few months now. This is a great community/resource for Porsche. Wish I had known about it sooner.

So it sounds like a 'bolt-on' spoiler would be okay, but will this not leave holes in the stock spoiler/engine cover? I'm guessing they can be repaired, but couldn't they make an issue out of that?

Ive modded many a leased car + tint and never had an issue returning them. Although I can see them getting tougher nowadays as they lose their a$$ on lease returns at auction etc.

But as pointed out, stick to bolt ons, just be prepared to remove them beforehand and your in the clear.

My last 2 E46M3's as well as my 07 997S are leased and everyone of them I modded. My 01 M3 just a cat back kit with some SSR wheels, nothing major. My 04 M3 had a complete exhaust system from headers, 100cpi cats, midpipe no resonator and a Borla muffler. The car also had an AFE intake along with software and suspension and brake mods. However I didn't have any issues in returning the car as the car had quite a bit of equity near the end of the lease and I sold it and used the money to buy the 997.

Generally spoiler/decklid replacements do not require new holes. I have a Misha GTM wing and it was a direct replacement for the stock spoiler. Did the Mod myself. Not too difficult. It would take me a couple of hours to return to stock if I wanted.
