997.2 C2S Cab or '08 Turbo Tip

You guys have got to help me decide between a 997.2 C2S Cab PDK or a new '08 Turbo Cab w/ Tipronic, factoring a price difference of say $20K which matters to me but I can swing the extra dough if the Turbo Cab is that much nicer. I am losing sleep over getting either the ultimate cab or the ultimate in latest technology - direction inject and PDK. So help me 6speedonline!!! And thanks in advance for your insightful comments.

You have to test drive them and see. For sure the 997.2 are very nice with update PCM and PDK, but once the turbos spool up and I never look back

The PDK is a much better gearbox than Tiptronic (The tip is from a MB S500) but the motor in the Turbo is much better and bullet proof compared to the 997.2 motor.

I have great experiance with both the Tip and the PDK. I owned 2 Tip cars and now have a PDK. The PDK is vastly superior.

Drive both cars and see which one talks to you the most. I bet you will hardly ever get to use the power of a Turbo but.....

The PDK is far superior to the Tip and the convertible sacrifices performance and with 480Hp (stock) it's somewhat contradictory not to get the coupe . The C4S cab of your two choices is the right car if top down non manual shifting is your style.

BUT.. Why not wait for the PDK Turbo and get a coupe? The whisper rumors are that it may even evolve to paddle shifter but again NOT confirmed -just rumor .

Edit-
Local P car e mailed the list of leftover 08 cars and has this 08 leftover in Tip . Considering the high price of a pdk C4S this actually looks reasonable ,

Now I am just as confused as you . That car looks nice.

I have a Ford GT w/ 850 HP and the new Viper ACR so not interested in another manual coupe (just sold my Challenge Stradale also). Need to slow down and smell the roses with the top down once in a while.

After owning a twin clutch EVO X for 6 months, I can see how good the PDK can be and I'm sure I'd prefer it over the tip but it is the aura of theeeeeeeee TURBO.....

Makes sense . it sounds like you want a supercar with some luxury and maybe the Tip Turbo is a good choice . PDK is mostly a "performance" feature . The Turbo is quieter (especially with stock exhaust) and somewhat touches upon the description you gave above .

It is hard to say which is better when so much a matter of what's important to you. From looking at cars you own, it seems as if pure power is important to you and the newest technological advances less-so (like your viper). That would defineatly make me think the Turbo is the better car for you. In the end, these cars are all more capable than nearly all of us. At my last DE I had a 997 turbo yield to me since I was so much faster (except on the straights). In the same run group, we were both being passed by a Boxter. For us mortals, the driver matters so much more than the car.

As I'm sure you are aware, tip residuals will likely fall pretty dramatically with the launch of PDK.

Yes, but if I can get a really good deal on an '08 Tip, then it'll be ok. But I just came back from a test drive of the CS2 Cab w/ PDK, but no Sprot Chrono and even though the PDK was smooth, I would prefer the car to hold the gear longer so the Sport Chrono would be a must. The salesman also told me the PDK will be available on the Turbo by late spring or summer. I didn't know PDK would be out that soon on the Turbo, that's interesting.

Why are these your only choices? What's your real frame of reference? What kind of driving do you like to do? Life isn't about "either or" it's about "and and". Start thinking about what you really want, not what choices you currently have in front of you.

Rumor is the PDK will have paddles (not confirmed) and more Hp . The debate sparks over the wet sump engine being a cost cutting avenue over the legendary Gt1 . Gotta wait and see .

I've got the track/drag covered. I'm selling/trading-in a Lotus but prefer to have another convertible. And back seats are kinda nice for a change. Not interested in the older Maseratis, DB9 Volante is too big and heavy for me, the CLK Vert is not sporty enough, M6 Vert is nice but don't like the SMG (have to have auto or twin clutch for old lady to drive once in a while). What other choices are there?
