Driving School: Porsche or Skip Barber or ?...and recomendations?

I live in los angeles and want to go to driving school...thought it would be fun to go to porsche driving school since i own a porsche...but its in Alabama...can do, but an easier choice is skip barber. They have a few dates coming up at Laguna Seca which i can drive to....any others? anyone have experience with either of these schools? thank would really appreciate any input.

Coming from NorCal tracks, the best one (IMO) is Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) there school is/was Jim Russel. if you get lucky, it'll rain.
<edit> I'm talking about race school in their formula cars

High performance driving or racing school? Skippy has both. I have not done the HP driving school but the racing school is second to none. Probably depends what your goal is? To be a better driver? Either driving school will probably work.

Want to get really fast and maybe race. Go to race school (usaully 3 days). Then advanced racing school (usaully 2 days). Then rent/buy a race car and drive a lot of laps.

enjoy!

You didn't give your experience level. If you are fairly new to the sport I recommend a Performance Driving School with your local PCA or POC. Both have car control schools in your area that are excellent and inexpensive and you drive your own car. This one is in San Diego:

I have been to this one and it made a huge difference in my driving skill. I highly recommend it!

If you have 2 or more years experience, Porsche, Barber and Bondurant have programs that will take your driving to the next level for more dough. Many pro drivers use these schools to sharpen their skills during the off season. Circle Porsche in Long Beach sponsored a group of us from PCA-GPX to attend the Porsche Driving School at Barber Motor Sports Park for 1/2 price last year... Cool! Membership has it's benefits.

Good luck. Drive safe!

as said above PCA or POC. POC is mostly a southern california group and they have many events at Streets of Willow (Willow Springs) for newcomers (car control) and as said you drive your own car...great instructors too...check their website and give Marty (was chief instructor a call)...then go to Skippy or Russell

Just join PCA and go to one of the many Driver Schools we hold throughout the country. My list of events in my area (in CT, so looking at Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, and NJ) has a total of 70 days between April 9 and November 8. Typical cost is $195 for a one-day event to $350 for a two-day.

28 days throughout the spring, summer and fall through PCA at Thunderbolt and Lightning (some days on one or the other, some events do both). Check through your PCA chapters in the NJ area...

I went to the Porsche Alabama school and it gave me alot of insight into the specific 911 driving skills. if you are going to track your 911 or drive at speed or plan on staying with a 911 then I highly recommend it. It was first class and the instructors were amazing. The 911 has its own characteristics at speed and this school gave me the confidence to take it to its limits. Highly recommended. They say at the class that the majority of the students already have a 911 and after the two days those that dont ......go out and buy one

Same here. Take the PSDS in Birmingham if you can swing it. Great course and to me a great place to start.

But, at the porsche school, will they turn the traction control off??? Most manufacturer schools don't, and that is why there is no damage liability. I am always nervous at bondurant when they tell you there is a $5,000 deductible on the insurance you take out.
