While washing my car, I caught the "C" of the Carrera emblem with the wash mit and broke it off. Rather than replacing the whole emblem (dealer wants $100), I would like to first try and glue it back on. Can anyone tell me what kind of adhesive to use, that won't hurt the paint. Thanks.

 

Not sure that would last very long. Just get a new emblem and replace the old. Many posts on the process but I use waxed dental floss to remove the old logo. (run it under the logo using it like a saw) Remove all the all old adhesive. New logo will be peal and stick. You'll want to mark off the original location with masking tape so you know where to locate the new one.

 

i would just order another one (not from the dealer) try bumperlugs.com they have them for much cheaper. just use a blow dryer, heat up the emblem on the car, remove it.. remove the sticky adhesive and apply the new one.

 

I did the same on a Boxster last year. As you have figured out already, dealer says do not use super glue!
My only helpful comment is recheck pricing. I got Boxster S trunk emblem for $29 from local dealer. I have seen all trunk emblems at Suncoast for $26.
The trick I was told on removal of old is:
Set blue tape to outline grid. Use blow dryer to warm old glue. Peels off easy. Remove all remnants of old glue.
New Emblem comes with adhesive in place of course, so unpeel and apply using grid.

im def debadging my 911. looks so much cleaner! but im waiting till it gets warmer out to heat up the glue. its about 20* today! haha
A hairdryer wont even warm it up enough on a day like today

 

We warranty those all the time. Talk to the dealer service manager.

 

Thanks for the info. But just so I understand fully, are you saying that even though I broke the emblem myself, with a wash mit, it still might be covered under warranty?

 

Are you a good customer of theirs? Do they service your car?
They should be able to let it slide.
"Customer state: rear emblem is loose" would work.... not making any promises tho.

 

While at the dealer for my two-year maintenance, I thought about what you said about my broken Carrera emblem. But it seems to me that if the emblem hadn't been loose in the first place, I wouldn't have broken it. Seems to me the looseness should be covered under warranty." Surprised me, but they wrote it just as you said, (loose emblem) and replaced it under warranty. Earlier they had quoted $100.00 to replace it.

3M makes a very good product meant for automotive emblems, that won't damage the paint finish, and is durable...I forgot the name, but if you search their site, you will find it.

$100 probably included labor. Just buy a new emblem, around $30.

Use dental floss and wedge it in between the emblem and your paint, go back and forth and the emblem will come off.

Take the glue residue off with goo-gone gel.

Clean the area with a mild polish or rubbing alcohol.

Install new emblem.

Stand back and enjoy
