chrono pack

Just wondering if the electronics part only the chrono pack can be added afterwards. I dont want the chrono on top of the dashboard but am interested for the sports button and electronics that go with it that sharpens up throttle response

I feel my 997 C2 is a bit slow in throttle response so anything that makes throttle response crispier more than welcome (flowed headers maybe?)

Thnaks for advice

You can get a reprogrammed ECU. I think that would be the quickest and easiest way to a more responsive throttle.

For example, the EVOMS Software from sharkwerks. $1095 asking.

http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=150

"The EVOMS software is the safest, most powerful ECU tuning for the 996 / 997 Porsche Carrera. The ECU program we offer will add 10 HP and 10 TQ.

Features:
-More power and torque throughout the rev range
-The most powerful and reliable ECU tuning on the market
-Improved throttle response and reduced throttle lag
-Undetectable by scan tools
-Program loaded through OBDII port, no need for soldering"

A lot of BMW owners use a Sprint Booster to sharpen throttle response - many of the members over on E60.net have one installed and like the results. I'm pretty sure there is a Sprint Booster for the 997 too. May be worth a look.

... which comes down to the question: would I have been much happier in case I had ticked the Sports Chrono pack option on my C2???

Unless you;re ordering PDK. With a standard manual shift S/C is essentially placebo. It doesn't affect engine performance one jot. If you;re looking for that there are plenty of after market chips you can buy to improve performance and invalidate your warranty.

The only real advantage of S/C with manual shift is that it loosens PSM and allows greater slip angles at the back.

In a manual car, SC doesn't really do much. It tricks you into thinking the throttle response is better, when all it's doing is advancing the position of the throttle to make you think it's doing something. What I mean is this. To get say 50% throttle on normal you might have to press the pedal 10mm. To get 50% on sport, it might be 9mm. So when you drive along and press the button, the car "jumps". But instead, you can just press the pedal that extra mm.

Better off spending about $1k to get something like Softronic ECU flash to actually improve performance.

If you do a search, you will find this is perhaps the most hotly contested option ever offered by Porsche. Probably hundreds of threads asking and answering the same question.

If the Porsche throttle is anything like that in a BMW it may well be more than just the amount of pedal travel and the application of a little extra pedal effort. There's often an inherent "lag" in the stock mapping for drive by wire electronic throttles and products like the Sprint Booster etc help to eliminate it such that the response does feel more instantaneous (in addition to advancing the throttle as you say).
