YYralis1, he's in Southern Cali so I'll have to fly down from Az and do all the inspections before hand. Seems like a nice guy but as you say, you never know. It is relatively low in options but I'd say Sport Chrono is the must have. Seems like there's a bunch of speed yellows in Fl. interestingly, but its too far to fly down.
Decisions, decisions.
This car may be a good thing . It may be worth looking at. As for South Florida --it has to be a CPO car here or leftover 08 NEW. I would not buy anything else . Local dealership has an already modified black cab in used cars plus they have several leftover 08 cars . I did not see any speed yellow so you might be thinking about private sale .
It is not worth getting on a plane to come this far and not get a new or leftover car. I don't think it will cost much more tahn what you are already ready to pay .

Lets say you close in the high 50's . Is low 70's for a new 08 leftover that far?

To Stardoc: from your garage it's apparent that you are an experienced trader. With lightly optioned 911s the resale was tremendous on the 996 up to 2004 (last mfg. year) because production was limited and Porsche jacked the MSRP 5-7% every year. Resale on the 997 was pretty good up to late 2007, then started to get screwed up; too many new and used on the market, MSRP had gone flat, and of course the economy. The final blow is the idiot spending bill passed in Washington yesterday. Wait a few more months and you will be able to buy "this" car for 50k.

I don't believe that a yellow Porsche will necessarily bring a lower resale value...as mentioned, some buyers will pay the same or more for the exact color they want.

That being said, I do think that having a color such as yellow will narrow down your pool of prospective buyers when it comes time to sell. Therefore, it may take a little bit longer for your car to sell as opposed to "popular" colors such as silver, etc...

I've experienced the same phenomena when I've sold my highly modified cars in the past. Contrary to poplular belief, I've always received what I thought was a pretty good price for my car + mods. The trick was that I was never in a rush to sell, and I just waited for the right buyer to come along who was as much in love with my car and my mods as I was.

If you think you'll need to dump your car in a hurry in the future, I personally would not recommend an "off" color.

Yes, the idiot spending bill. I've heard rumours where there'll be a 100% tax write off on the sales tax paid towards the purchase of a new car. If that be so, the used market may take a further beating although I'm not sure about $50k in a few months.
Good eye Yrralis1. Although car is a one owner and seems clean from a distance.

Basic economics. In general, for large sample sizes, resale value will track the distribution of colors already on the road. i.e. the most common colors will garner the highest resale value.
Actually, more specifically, a common color will increase the speed of sale. Conversely, if you're willing to wait, an uncommon color may garner a higher price due to the challenge on the buyer to satisfy his/her choice. But that wait may be, um, infinite. Thus, see point #1.
I should add that, as long as you don't choose some bazaar custom color (has to match the color of your baseball mitt, water ski's, dog's nose) then the variance will be modest. Yes, likely lower, but not a huge blow.
Oh and finally, notwithstanding the analysis you must demonstrate to 'the boss', if this is your first Porsche, you will quickly realize that you'll never sell it. It's a giant german love bomb.

Aren't there income limitations for that? I would think that the Porsche market would be unnaffected as most of the people who are going to be deciding between a used or new Porsche probably make too much money to take advantage. Anyways... here in California, the secret budget negotiations are probably going to end up with increased sales tax, car registration, every possible nickel and diming to make up the 40 something billion dollar deficit.

I had a 1998 Mustang SVT Cobra Coupe in yellow...the car was immaculate and I had a buyer come all the way from Minnesota (I live in Los Angeles) to buy the car. There were only 702 yellow Mustang SVT coupes made. Same thing with my 04 E46 M3 in Imola Red..you would think there would be a lot of Imola Red M3's...not the case. Another buyer from Minnesota bought my Imola E46 M3. In both cases I got near full asking price for my car.

SY just rocks..in my eyes it is the perfect color for a Porsche..

Here in Los Angeles you can't throw a rock without hitting a black, silver or 30 other shades of silver PCar, Benz or BMW.

The tax savings of a used private sale may lose its gain with CPO coverage . I also am not sure how a private used car lot would differ from a "dealership" in terms of sales tax .

Since I have always bought my car new -I always paid tax.
Any car I sold --I either traded in OR sold to a high end used lot which qualified them as a 'dealership" . They did the paperwork . There are many in South Florida. There are probably many in California too. That's a big competion state for Porsche sales. Understandable with great roads and climate for Porsches .

A Porsche is a very expensive car purchase and the peace of mind of knowing it has an inspection and warranty is very important to have.

Pennies saved can become dollars spent PLUS no matter where a used car comes from I urge that it be thoroughly inspected with a DME scan and paint evaluation.
