Actually, I am a motocrosser, and this guy is crazy (and good). I watched that event live on NYE, and I couldn't believe he actually did it. He had zero safety margin. Not enough lift, and he would plunge to his death. Too much lift, and he would overjump the arch.

Watch the higher quality vids on youtube, and you will see how crazy it was. He actually busted his hand open on the exit landing, since he carried too much speed off the top. He was bleeding pretty bad. He is crazy, but then again, so are all of the freestyle motocrossers. Stupid, yes. But talented, nonetheless.

 

I saw this one the news just after he did it. Awesome, but I wouldn't ever try it myself.

For guys like Robbie Madison, it ain't the money. It wasn't the money for Houdini, or Stever Irwin, or Evil Knievel, or his son, Robbie, etc. And it wasn't the money for early "stock car" drivers like Petty and Yarborough. And it wasn't the money for test pilots like Yeager.

They'd do this stuff in their backyard with no one watching. Anyone have sons? Some kids, you can tell, are fearless and need the thrill. Others are cautious. It's in their blood.

Stunts are not my cup of tea, and while I cannot relate to the guys who do them, I can certainly respect it when it's done in a manner when no one "innocent" can be hurt. And I respect the physicians and physicists who stand behind them.
