I dunno guys- price increases are inevitable. What strikes me is, if you can clearly afford to go out and buy a brand new ~$100k 997.2 in this economy with no guilt or finaincial strain, why complain about a measly 1% price increase? The bottom line is you're able to buy a nice new toy which is far removed from a necessity purchase, and well... you have to pay to play .

We both ordered well before the price increase, so there won't be any price increase to us. I have a contract that my dealer will honor, as does my dealer have a contract to buy my car from PCNA at the "old" price, which they too will honor. PCNA is not going to tell my dealer that because they shut the factory down for 19 days in February, which is why my car wasn't built and delivered yet, that my dealer will have to pay the price increase.

true words for sure! Quality costs and I would rather have Porsche build em' right than job the item out to a cheaper supplier. My thread was more of a question that turned into a comment, and was not particularly trying to indict any individual. But I don't give money away, unless it goes to the charities I support. And my dealer isn't one of them
But, I wrinkle my nose at the thought that there is nothing wrong with raising an "agreed upon" price. That is just the way I am and would not do it to my customers either. i just suck it up and deal with my lack of insight into my business model. That week, I take home less in my paycheck! Either way, it looks like my dealer is hinting they will do the right thing. I just gotta keep reminding myself how great the 911 is. (and the forum members help with that too, being true enthusiasts) I also didn't mean to sound short with that fella from canada who posted above. i was writing on my iphone and was in a hurry, so it came off rude.

John- yeah I hear you. - If you do end up paying the extra 1% don't sweat it, I guarantee it will be a far faded thought as you peel away from the dealer in that sweet new ride . Smiles like that have no price tag...

Actually today it is about 1.29 canadian to buy 1 US dollar
When I ordered my 997.2 I was thinking about buying it in the USA and bringing it into Canada as the Dollar was Par and I would have saved about 10,000. Now with the strong US DOLLAR . my Car in Canada is about 15,000 cheaper than the same car in the US. that is a $25,000 difference ...in about 6 mths..Wow ....maybe some of you should be buying Cars in Canada with your strong dollars the same way we have been buying Cars in the USA over the last few years.....funny how things change so fast....

I looked into this a bit today online. It looks like we get hit with a gas guzzler tax (Is the 911 a guzzler?!) and also a border tax, then of course your state taxes. Has anyone done this before and can comment on the extra fees?

I never heard of a dealer changing the price once you have a contract. Gotta read the terms and conditions to see what they can get away with. Report it to the better business bureau to see what they say.

all that legal mumbo jumbo on the back of the contract gives them the supposed "right" to alter the price if the manufacturer raises them. They allow you to back out, so long as you forfeit your deposit, or 15% of your trade as a commission. Since you have to go to arbitration first, they feel pretty protected. A poster mentioned previously that he altered the contract to remove some of the stipulations, which is pretty smart. However, most dealers would throw you out at that point. In this economy, our positions are stronger, but dealers are about as slimy as they come and frequently don't regard loyal customers as important. My concern is that the dealer merely represents that the price they paid went up, when in reality, porsche did not charge them on the transaction. They can squeeze another 1% out of you that way.

A local Porsche dealer did this to a order we made back in the 80's. The mark went up some astronomical amount and as a result the car price went up significantly. The dealer held us legally to the deal and we were forced to purchase. The good part is that we were able to sell the car immediately and didn't lose money. The bad part...

We never went back to that dealer. They probably lost $60K from us in pure profit in the years since. Its funny how dealers have no concept of karma.

Over the last few years many of my friends bought a 997 from the states and brought it into Canada saving 10 of thousands. When they go to trade them in on a 997.2 the dealers are saying that because they werent a Canadian Car they wont get as high a trade in value..... .This is totally nonsense but the Canadian dealers were hurt during this period when our dollar was strong as no one would buy in Canada when there was such a price difference. The warranties were for North America.
If you saw one of these many cars for sale in Canada It is my understanding you would not have to pay the duty again going back into the USA if the seller had copies of the original title......which he would probably still have.
I bought a 356 Cab from US and sold it back and just showed them the original US title and they waived all duty. Of course your state taxes would apply when you register it...

What do you all think happens when a government prints money and a supplier restricts supply (i.e Porsche building fewer cars) -- INFLATION!!

No way would I accept a price increase in this market! Porsche factory is now building Boxsters again, since 911 sales are down!
In no way is it justified and I feel that a paying, credit worthy, customer in today's market can command much more deference than in boom times.

Just my two cents, but in today's business environment any one who tries to raise prices is risking loss of market share. I would call their bluff!

It is true...just took delivery of my 09 and they tried to pass that increase on. I refused. No way to do business. Great thinking...raising prices while the markets are cratering around you.
