Price increase for first quarter of 2009?!?!

Hi, my dealership just contacted me on a recent price increase by porsche on 2009 911 models, effective for the first quarter of 2009. I ordered my car in january and they are telling me that there is at least a 1% increase on most models slated for a march-april delivery, and that they have to raise their prices....Has anyone else heard this or is this a typical tactic by the dealer?!?!
Thanks in advance for the replies!

The price increase was announced last month. I ordered my car in January, March build, April delivery, and the base price went up $900. on a $92,300 C4S to $93,200.
The dealer can run you a new ProForma Invoice showing the new cost. By the way, none of my ordered options went up in cost, just the base price.

Could be US $ to Euro exchange. I doubt that PCNA would try and grab more money for new cars considering the economy.

thanks skyking! So basically on a regular S model, the invoice is usually 76K or so, and they are up about $760.00. So is that what we should be paying extra on the new car??

I dunno, the dollar is stronger against the euro compared with 12 months ago. Shouldn't they be lowering the price?

JohnM, I just checked the www.porsche.com/usa
site and it has, what I believe, are the new base prices.
The price for my C4S Coupe is correct.

If my dealer tried that on a car I ordered, I would just ask for an accommodation worth whatever the increase was. Price went up $900, then I need a credit for close to that amount in the service dept, or throw in the illuminated door sills, or whatever.

Aint nobody increasing prices in this market without delivering more value. Deflation is here.

what surprises me is that if we order a car at a certain price, and the car is built before the increase, why the consumer should pay more! Seems shady to me. Why not just wait until you have a book full of orders at porsche headquarters and retroactively raise the prices. Most sales contracts, mine included, allow for the increase, and allow them to keep the deposit in spite of these changes. My biggest concern is that the dealer still gets my vehicle for the 1/09 invoice, and lies to me that they are paying the 2/09 higher invoice. How could we even verify that???

My dealer already tried to rip me off by saying my M3 trade was "crashed" and then when I threatened to leave, they accepted the trade, and went on to sell it with a clear, damage-free Carfax report two weeks later (damn frauds)......I don't see them doing a thing for me but letting me choke on my lost-deposit

For those of you that have ordered cars from Porsche, you should be familiar with the wording on PCNA's Pro Forma Invoice "All information in this document is subject to change without notice. Porsche Cars North America and Porsche A.G. accept no liability arising from the use of the information contained herein. Only the actual invoice issued by PCNA at the time this vehicle is purchased by the dealer may be used as an official indication of pricing."
I am not sure what your dealer contract says but my dealer is providing the PCNA pro forma invoice as the actual pricing document for the vehicle and options.

I guess if you do not want to pay the increase you have the option to pay it or do not accept the vehicle. I was aware, when I ordered the vehicle, a price increase was coming, the dealer did not know how much it would be.

that is pretty interesting! Of course, it is debatable on how they should or could handle these issues. Consumer protection laws don't allow the dealerships to do these things, and that is why most dealers require you to sign an arbitration clause. Keeps you out of court and keeps it quiet! The best part is that they will let you out of the deal, but only after they take 15% of your trade value as a commission or keep your down payment as a "cost". Personally, I feel that the price they quote is the price you should get. Otherwise, why bargain? Also, the pricing for the 2009 year is publically advertised, and anticipated during the dealing phase. Odd that if porsche feels they need to raise the price of the vehicle, they give little to no warning to the dealerships. What is ethical, is when you PLACE your order on the car, porsche (who probably planned the increase months before) confirms the order, and locks in a price. It is not like it is 5 months from order to delivery!

This may be locking the barn after the horse is out, but a couple of years ago, when I ordered mine, I lined out what I did not like and had the saleman initial; I also had the General Manager fax (Not email) me a letter listing model, options, a couple of other negotiated items, projected build month and delivery date, and the confirmed firm price. That was then; in today's economy a new car Porsche buyer would expect to negotiate at least a 10 % discount so you might be willing to give back a little (I wouldn't). If your dealer plays hardball over this just wait to see how his service department functions!

you know, when I was signing the papers for the order, i was already so mad because they tried the old "your cars been wrecked and repainted" trick. I was basically like, "screw this" and just signed the papers and left. I should have read them and did like you said. Line by line!
But, I am a repeat customer at the dealership and was so shocked that they were playing games. I just spoke a few minutes ago with the salesman and he will "make me a fair deal" but only once the car arrives. I confronted him with how my trade-in, that they said was wrecked, got a clear CarFax from them and he got very quiet. This is starting to ruin my joy of owning a car I wanted since I was a kid! Why dealers pull this is beyond me.....
Anyway, thanks for the advice because I never thought of that until you said it.

The US $ has been on a roller coast for the last 2 years. October/November 2007, the US $ was worth 90 cents Canadian, today it is about 1.22 Canadian, that is a 30%+ swing for the exchange. I beleive the crash was the same for the US $ to €.

The current 997 pricing was established in the late summer/early fall, the 1% increase is based on the current models, not the previous model/generation.

dollar vs euro was at it's worst when they introduced the 997.2 and its pricing announced 1-1.59 in july 08. (and was therabouts for 8 months prior) The dollar is at 1.27 at time of newest price increase. That means the dollar is stronger Vs Euro today than in 08. That means the dollar buys 30% more in euro currency. The exchange rate thing doesn't hold water. i don't follow canadian currency, so I can't comment on it
