need help with navigation system

Hello,
I recently purchased a 2007 C4S with navigation and here is my problem. When I drive, the navigation seems to have trouble catching up with the car, ie if I turn right, the car seems to get lost momentarily. Sometimes, on the freeway, the navigation will tell me to make a right turn for no apparent reason and the car on the map will point erratically. The car is at the dealer right not and they cannot seem to find the problem. They claim that other cars have the same issue, but when I took a 2008 out, it seemed to work perfectly fine. Any suggestions? Does anyone think that this is normal?
TIA
Dave

Doesn't sound normal to me, perhaps your DVD unit has a bad laser.

I'd challenge the dealer and let them know it isn't normal or acceptable, and that they need to fix it. Ed may be right, perhaps your laser is faulty, or perhaps your DVD disk is bad.

My '07 tracks just fine - although occasionally the whole unit fails (no disk loaded error message) and won't reset without removing the key. Maybe happend 2-3 times over the 16 months and 28k miles I've driven the car.

Dave,
Does this erratic behavior happen soon after you start driving or a long time after? All GPS units require some time to acquire enough satellite signals to accurately determine your position.

I don't think that should take more than a few minutes, at most.

If a long time is passing, I think that you probably had a bad GPS antenna. The dealer should find the antenna and check the connection. If it's connected properly, they should try replacing the antenna.

(BTW, anyone know where the GPS antenna is?) I don't think your problem is related to the DVD laser. If that was failing, you probably wouldn't see the maps.

GPS Antenna is in plastic housing where windshield wipers are.
Try resetting the PCM push 148.

I agree with CMOS as it sounds like the antenna either has a loose connection or a short in it.The issues you describe are similar to when you have bad reception from the satellite or are only getting a signal from one vs. getting it from 2 or 3.

I was told that the antenna connection was checked but I can ask them to check it again. The problem occurs both at a "cold" and "warm" start. I realize that it takes some time for the GPS to acquire the signal. But the problem will occur even after I have driven the car for 10-15 minutes which should be more than ample time to get a good signal. Also, as I mentioned, it will occur when I'm on the highway and ask me to turn where there is no exit. When I look at the map screen, I notice that the car icon is waving around erratically.

Also, when I am driving and I make a right turn, the car icon will not register that I have turned until several blocks later, ie if I turn right on Aviation avenue, sometimes it will appear on the map that I have actually gone through the intersection.

So in summary, it seems to me the the GPS is tracking or updating very slowly.

Navigation fixed! Thanks for all the replies. I sent a link of this thread to the dealer and they forwarded it to PCNA and voila, problem solved. It was a bad DVD unit.
