Truth of the matter;
Truth of the matter;
When modifying your pcar, imho you should first determine what you're looking for, a garage queen, a radical street car or a track car, the reason I say this is because I have been on this forum, getting good opinions, making contacts, and just having fun reading and answering topic in these discussions.
There is a big difference in what you're looking for. I started with modding my car because I wanted something that had a bit more power, better sounding and more performance in drivability, for example, I wanted a stiffer suspension for tighter cornering and no pitch when braking and accelerating,; all of this before even thinking of tracking the car. Well it's just not that easy, once you start it becomes a misssion to get the job done, but then, it's not safe to run your baby on the streets, so I guess it was for me inevitable to take it to the next step,ie. the track, and wow! Then, I really got into it after my first event. That was really humbling and super fun, adrenaline rush the entire time. Next step, learn better driving skills, next step wheels and tires, next step, consider trailering car to events, next step get into racing, and on and on and on. Well, you have to stop at some point, we are not preofessional drivers, who imho, are gifted individuals that have years of experience.
So, back to the truth of the matter, you can get carried away with the mods. Sorry, not trying to preach just make sense of it all.
only my 0.2.

Yes we can get carried away, I myself have found that one leads to another and that it becomes an lot of fun researching what works and what doesn't work. I have started with a stock car, took it to the track. I found things that I knew I could improve on, and have done that. I did my mode in groups, exhaust + intake, suspension and tires, seats and harnesses, and last LSD and LWFW. After each group of mods, I took it the track and drove my car hard, I have detirmind that the mods have change/improved the car, and then made other changes.
I still use my car as a DD, and will trailer it to tracks as my tire choice for the track isn't the best for street use. I have no desire to race, I do enjoy "sport driving" as I call it and can work my track time in based on my schedule.
I know that others like the "hobby" of modding there cars, and others mod to brag about it. Going to the track will humble just about any novice drivers (as it did for me) and I think some will rise to the challenge and others will not go back to the track as they are affraid to bruise there egos further.

Wise words guys. I am tracking to improve my skill and to be around some unbelievably good drivers. I am lucky that I live by Barber's so it is readily accessible. Not even worrying too much about mods as I will see where this goes and if I progress I will look for a track car down the road. The weakest link in the car driver chain is myself not the stock car. Rep points for you guys.
Word!
I have seriously gone much further than I intended when I bought my 997S.
I actually bought it thinking I would not mod. I told myself that this would be the first car I did not need to mod. Buuuuut, that did not last long. For me is just about having something unique that I enjoy driving. Also, I enjoy the hobby of modding. I like wrenching on my cars. I am not a hard core track junky but I like the tuned look and feel of a well sorted car, especially Pcars.

it took me several cars and thousands to come to the realization that sometimes less is more. i actually wished at times that i had remained stock.
i almost fell for it again here but i pulled myself back together. i did buy some wheels but thats something thats easily reversable if i dont like it and can get most of my money back should i decide to sell.
unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which side of the $ transaction you're on, most guys have to learn how to control the mod bug thru experience and sometimes headaches.
telling a guy who has not modded up a car before not to take the slippery road is usually futile
