Gauge Cluster question for the 997~

My friend is interested in changing his gauges to another color on his C2S and we were just wondering, if you change out your gauge cluster to a new one, will he run into the problems of having to reset everything to the odometer or will it be right back to where it left off? Because I know if it resets everything that will run into the problems of the car having a "Miles unknown" or "Untrue Mileage" title~ That would NOT be good~
Or is there another alternative?

I would recommend buying the new cluster, and having the dealer install it.

Yeah i'm planning on buying a new cluster myself. You need to have the dealer read out current mileage from the old cluster and transfer it to your new cluster. You need the PIWIS tester. Without the tester, you'll have error message or some sort.

Thanks for all the input guys! It's much apprecaited!
I just called Porsche directly and they informed me that it would void the warranty whether the faceplates were replaced(due the acrylic plate having to be taken off) or even if you ordered a whole new cluster which is basically impossible thru Porsche because they only offer it thru the "Porsche Wishlist" Program when ordering the car~
So to make a long story short...not worth it!
I guess it's on to just upgrading with Carbon Fiber interior!

sorry but try another dealer.... .....

I swapped out my black gauges for silver, (at 16K miles) Brought them a new cluster, they did the swap and reprogram of the new cluster to accurate miles and I sold my old black gauge cluster on ebay.... 200 dollars for the swap and reprogram.

New cluster is 2K through Porsche and easily ordered (I am talking 997.1)... I got mine on ebay new oem.... then sold my black one on ebay right after the install...

I did this swap as one of my first mods.... to me the silver was a must have.

Just to gauge if I wanted to do this in the future, how much were you able to sell your cluster for?

Oh, I was confused at first by your post. You got a new cluster for $400 on ebay, but it usually costs 2k from the dealer.... I want red gauges so bad, so I guess I'll keep searching ebay for luck.
