Hi guys.

I'd like to buy a C2 or C2s but I'm not sure what year to get. Budgeting $40-50k, an '05 seems to be the best bet but being the first year for the 997, I'm not sure I want to risk everything on the new model. Also, I can't find any used car reliability ratings for '05 in Consumer reports or elsewhere. If lucky, I might find an '06 for $50ish and its rating looks good. Searching around, I've even found some '07 cars priced very close or on par with '06. Were there issues with '07 that should make me wary? What has been your experience on these model years with regards to reliability? Which year car should I get?

Also, do p-dealerships routinely fix paint chips on pre-owned/leased vehicles before they are put up for re-sale? I plan on importing one back to Canada and would hate to drive/fly a long distance to see a car that's been beaten up (I've seen some cars like this in used car lots). Any advice would be appreciated. You guys got a great forum going.

 

In your price range I would opt for an 05 C2S . The engine is very important to get correct from day one . I have yet to see a 997S buyer wish taht he bought a base car but the visa versa has not been the case.

Also opt for a CPO car but go to a dealership whom you can trust and there are still some good guys left .

In many regions there isn't just one dealership . If you rent a car you can travel to several within a short radius in many locations so if you see a car that you don't like .. don't feel disappointed .. drive an hour and theres another dealership . In a few days you can have a car and go home .

 

If your getting an '05 CPO is the way to go. Obviously, the less miles, the less stories. I'm with yrralis1, the 'S' is the way to go if your a driver. But if you're just using it for regular boulevard cruising then save yourself some bucks and go with the standard version and probably newer one. Look on Ebay, Autorader and Cars.com and the preowned Porsche sites. Another good source is Criag's Helper which searches all local Craigslist sections in the country. Good luck.

 

I think the early MY05 had a different Intermediate shaft than the second half of 05 which had a few rare failures. That being said I would go with late model 05 or 06/07. Totally agree with the CPO. It will give you piece of mind.
