Windscreen replacement ordeal...

While on a leisurely drive on the on-ramp to the main highway around where I live, a car or truck somewhere in front of me picks up a rock and breaks my windscreen. Now, my nice and until now virgin 997 has to get a windscreen transplant. So, 3 days after the incident, the glass guys come around and replace it after a few nervous hours. Some trim gets taken out and thankfully safely but they messed up the covers for the rear view mirror. No biggie, I thought, after a phone call reassured me it was inexpensive and easily replaced next Monday at the dealer. The new windscreen gets installed but, and this is the major but, it gets installed unevenly and, to my eye, is plain wrong. I am so picky about details that this was going to be a problem every time I got to look at my car head on. There was a difference in how deep the recesses in it looked from right to left. I mean, noticeable enough to really upset me but it was a bit too late - the guys had left and I stayed feeling that my once beautiful car was not as beautiful as before. I thought after a while, what the hell, in a few month's time I'll get it replaced again correctly. But, to top this off, after driving it a little and going back into my garage, it shattered from top to bottom on the driver's side, exactly the side that was less sunk in. Let's see now how this ends up! I called the insurance company and left a message with the auto glass shop. I'll update this as it transpires.

I know exactly how you feel. All things will work out eventually; however. Keep the faith.

Glass replacement is a basic of any insurance, and you should be able to get it repaired anywhere you want- go to the dealership.

While it is true that glass replacement is a basic of any insurance - and in Florida there is 0 deductible - my local dealer does not replace glass. I called them this morning to see if it was possible for them to do it the second time around and they told me they have auto glass shops come in to do the work, not themselves.

The company that did the installation yesterday contacted me this morning telling me they have to come in on Monday morning (read anytime from 9-12 but in reality could be all day long) to "assess" what went wrong. All is fine with me as long as the result is that they replace the glass free of charge to me as I had nothing to do with their labor nor was the cause of the subsequent breakage on the glass they installed. Somehow, this seems to me like they are looking for a way out or to pass the blame. I don't want to jump to conclusions but, in my experience, that is how things sound like. Let's see! I will tell them all the nice propaganda I can do for them from my experience in all the forums and clubs I belong to.
