{PICS} Painting wheel saga done (for now)
{PICS} Painting wheel saga done (for now)
so i went back and forth with what to do with my newly aquired GT3 wheels that are black with a silver stripe on the very outer edge.
i placed an order for some dark silver metallic paint to get the wheels painted at my friends paint shop.
i made a post here asking for opinions on what color i should go with and the overwhelming responce was keep them black.
i took the wheels and the car to the shop and while there, the friend too pleaded with me to keep the GT3's black and paint the lobsters instead.
well, i caved in and decided to keep the GT3's as is for now. once i burn thru these pilot cups, i will strip the GT3 wheels and do a special custom silver.
to make things even tougher, my friend tells me that we can cancel the dark silver paint for the lobsters and i can choose another color if i wish.
so... we mounted the GT3's and with the silver rim, i decided to keep the centercap crest background silver as well to match the lip.
the lobsters are getting painted gloss black to have as a back up set.
The pics:
they are only 1 inch wider and protrude only a 1/2 inch past the lobsters but it sure gives the car a mean stance.

i went for a drive to settle the suspension and took a few more pics

sorry brother, I gotta say im not a fan of the silver on the wheel. I think it would look much more aggressive all black, it looks like it makes the wheels smaller. However, with that said, if your happy then thats all that matters, and if not, you can always paint 'em again
I think it looks good. I think black is a very subtle look for a rim and needs a bit of color to dress them up. I think the only cars that can pull off an all black rim are cars that are dressed up themselves with or without the rims...in other words cars that are not subtle. Then with the black rim, they really pop. Here's an example, one of my favorite cars on this board...
I think that when a car is stock, and subtle, as is yours...it takes a dressy rim to get that "look". Black rims, even with a bit of color in the lip and cap, are more subtle than a brighter color. Subtle on subtle gives you subtle
. If you want that "look" that makes the car pop and everyone go "wow", you'll have to change the car (lowering, facia, etc.) or the rim (brighter, fancier, etc.). Just my opinion.
The exception to the rule is black on black and it seems to work on alot of cars. I think that combining subtle rims with subtle paint negate each other somehow giving the oposite effect. Two negatives making a positive...that kind of thing.
Just my thoughts,
J

I love the look with the silver surround. But I have always had a soft spot for this look since I set eyes on a set of American Racing mags 30 years ago with the 5 grey spokes and bright metal surround.
Wheel Enhancement has black caps as well. Looks good
