DIY-Replace\Change Air Filter Remove AirBox
I agree great write up but I had a very hard problem taking that MAF sensor off. After an hour of trying to press hard and pull as the instructions said I just could not get that MAF to unclip. After some profanities and sore fingers I gave up. Since at the end you wiggle the box out after taking off the other 3 or 4 connections, I just wanted to see how much room I had without disconnecting all the other hose/connections. To my surprise I was able to tilt it and access all 8 torxs bits! Replaced filter and I am one happy man! Just wanted to share!
The MAF is hard. Once you find the right area to squeeze it's a snap. It's right at the edge of the rubber boot on the back side. You can actually slide the boot off and then squeeze right there at the edge. It made a click when I did it. Once it clicked pulling it off was easy.
I can take a picture tomorrow if you're still having trouble. I don't think it is wise to strain the cables trying to change the filter while the air box is in the engine bay.

Yup, you can remove the air box partially and then disconnect the MAF. Did it last weekend in 10 minutes as you say
Ah yes! I was finally able to figure it out with the more detailed picture! Thanks! I did a quick disconnect then reconnect. Looks like I'll be doing my next air filter change in 4 years since I will drive it 5K miles a year.
there is no "vacuum hose/solenoid" on the back of my air box. 06 997 3.6L
Great write-up! Rep points to OP!
I did mine earlier today and the write-up was a tremendous help. One thing different that I encountered was another cable clip on the left side, near the air intake. There's a hole in the back of my air intake tube, and the connector inserts into the tub to keep it in place. I didn't notice it until after I had everything re-assembled. I noticed a connector dangling near my alternator. I figured out where it belongs and inserted it back into the hole in the air intake tube.
I believe that the connector popped out when I removed that airbox. Next time - and for others with that same clip - it would be better to expand the clip first - similar to what is pictured in Step 3.
I can take and upload a picture if anyone cares to see what I'm talking about.
Also - I had a bit of trouble with the vacuum hose and I think I'll try the idea in post 31 above, to only partially remove it.
Thanks again!
