Reasonable price for 06 997

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking around the forum for a few months now, a few days ago, I came across a silver 06 997 with 14200 miles, very clean in/out, just recently serviced (motor mount recall), carfax shows clean records, CF interior, Bose, TPMS, leather, heated seats but NO NAV/CD. Car drives great but needs new rear tires. I've a few questions here:

1) How accurate is the information on carfax?
2) Are there any other database I can run the VIN# (WP0AA29926S717317) against to find out more info on this car beside the Porsche dealership?
3) What kind of aftermarket warranty is available on this car? (in service date 10/06)
4) What's today market price on this vehicle? Dealer is asking $46K.

Thank you for your help in advance and Im hoping to pick her up soon.

That price doesn't sound bad, but you could likely negotiate it down, and perhaps get new rears thrown in. I believe most Porsche dealers can sell you an extended warranty. Don't worry about the lack of nav and CD, no big loss in my opinion. Check prices on AutoTrader for similar car for some comparisons. How will you have time for a Porsche with all those nice Mercs?

Thanks for your post, is CPO from the Porsche dealership possible or 3rd party warranty? The sales person seems to recommend US Fildelis? I forgot to add that it has Bi-Xenon and PASM. You're right about the NAV/CD, they are nice options but I dont think it will break or make the deal. Two of my Mercs are coming up on their lease terms within two months.

If it is sold by a Porsche dealer, they can CPO it. If purchased anywhere else, you'd need to buy an extended warranty, which a Porsche dealer can arrange. Having PASM and xenons on a C2 is rare, and nice. Does it have the red brake calipers too? Full leather?
For a better Nav, just buy a Garmin. Instead of CD, you can install a Dension and use your MP3 player.

Unfortunately it's NOT sold by a P-dealer, no red brake calipers but full leather. I actually do have a Nuvi 780 and thank you for your help so far.

Don't worry about the lack of S brakes. The C2 brakes are fine. Full leather is GOOD. You can purchase a warranty from dealer any time prior to expiration of the factory warranty. The nuvi is better than the factory nav in my opinion. What is color combo of the car?

I have found CarFax a little spotty, but I think they theoretically guarantee their info, so that might help if something showed up later.

From what I've heard a clean Carfax doesn't necessarily mean there hasn't been body work. Probably worth having your local Porsche dealer do a PPI on it as your factory warranty is about to run out and repairs can get expensive, real expensive.

Agree that the price doesn't sound too bad either.

saw the car u were looking at... interior looks mint..

any aftermarket warranty besides porsche is useless... i had insane aftermarket warranty on last car i paid for and it was USELESS... they will do anything they can to get around paying for anything...

one thing ive been noticing is if a car is at P dealer... they do all the checks and such anyways... so even if you dont get the 2k warranty they have already flushed fluids and checked everything out as if it did have the 2k warranty (at least thats what a few dealers said.. they said its "certified" but if i didnt need the in writing warranty that 2k off the top....warranty is almost useless anyways... so kinda makes me feel warm and cuddly getting from p dealer now... i always have my fluids all changed and everything checked on every used car i buy so that saves me time/$.

the car ur looking at... ive seen an S @ the same price.. certified w/ just like 10k more miles... so id tell them 40... 46 is high..

i saw a lil more mile car, similar options... certified sell for 35 even recently... i missed it by a day tho!

US Fidelis: NO,NO,NO,NO -- do a google search if you don't believe me

(and I would not buy anything from a salesman who recommended them)

It's silver w/charcoal interior. I've heard similar stories on Carfax as well and I wonder if it's all worth it to buy a car w/out CPO.

Thanks for the warning. What kind of repair(s) are you referring to?

Should I be looking at an S? I dont want to spend more than $50K. Thanks.

The exhaust sounds kinda funny at first (sounds like air leaking) but after a short drive (3 miles) and it appears to be normal. It did have some shaking but I need to drive another 997 for comparison. Thanks for your help.

not entirely true. i had a TotalCare warranty that was great. never had an issue getting them to pay for anything, from RMS to an engine gasket.
