Importance of Nav, Sport Chrono, and Full Leather?
Looking for some opinions here.
How important is it for a 997.1S to have Nav, Sport Chrono, and Full Leather Seats? I'm looking at a car that DOES NOT have the above.
I'm ok without the Nav as this car will be strictly used as a weekend type car and I've never been a huge fan of Nav. Willing to sacrifice.
I'm new to Porsche so not sure about the need for the full leather seats. Bad to not have?
Finally, opinions on the Sport Chrono?
I plan on keeping this car for a few years before possibly reselling it. If you all tell me that not having these options will kill my chances of resale later, I'd appreciate any honest answers.
Any other factory options that are a must have?
Thanks again everybody.

Get the full leather
Full leather interior is really a great upgrade, especially for a car that you will only use on weekends, plastic may be more durable for a daily driver. Full leather really adds to the upscale feel of the car overall. The Nav is good and works well but you don't need it like you said. The Sport Chrono is also very much optional and really does not add to the overall performance of the 997.1. It simply changes the amount of pedal you need to apply get to full throttle (basic explaination). You don't get more power or torque because the car has the sport chrono. If you found a car that you really like that is priced right and you like it that is what really matters. Buy the car you really like don't worry about what options are on it unless that is what you like. I do recommend the S if you are looking at a Carrera, I think the extra power is a plus. Others may disagree though. So get the car you like. Have fun with it!
for me the breakdown in my head was:
willing to pay extra 3/3500 for full leather
willing to pay extra 1k for full power/memory/comfort seats
willing to pay extra 1k for bose
willing to pay extra 5000-6000 for cab
willing to pay extra 600-700 for sports chrono
willing to pay extra 1000 for 19" sport wheels over the 18".
of course a base model is nice... but when i added up what i was willing to pay for each option the car i found was worth it... i decided that tip wasnt worth anything to me and i did not want it... test drove a tip and PDK car and they felt heartless... navi is nice but A: u can buy the parts cheap on ebay and B: i have navi on my phone so would be superfluous.
you kinda gotta go on porsche.com and see each option and write down what its "worth" to you.. and then when you find your car... work the #'s backwards and see if it comes to the right price for you. thats at least what i do.
best of luck

For me, don't care about nav as it could easily be added later if wanted. Wouldn't even buy a car with Sport Chrono, adds nothing of value to me (and most). Would not buy a car with full leather - don't want that material on the doors or dash - more prone to damage, getting wet (ie: rain track day), etc. To me, what you found is perfect!

Leather would be a must. Very durable if taken care. Clean ups easier than cloth.
NAV nice to have for alt routes for traffic jams. Trips to see your ETA.
Chrono a waste.

No, leather and my skin are not even close to similar. My skin will dry immediately, where leather can take a long time to dry out. We aren't talking about seats, because both full and partial leather have full leather seating areas - we're talking about door panels, dash, etc. Try living with a "wet leather" smelling car for days after a track event if it's raining and you have full leather

The OP asked opinions and mine is that I don't like full leather...I think the NAV is fine for my needs, however the SC is a bit of a useless option. I have played with it a few times and find it too complicated to try and use on the track.
its very durable if you have common sense w/ it... i think the full leather makes the interior as it feels 10x nicer inside..
not saying im right and your wrong, just everyones opinions vary... you seem more track orientated, whereas i like daily comfort and looks when i get in the car...
so that brings another question to the OP: what use will your car be providing? daily driver or track beast?
The navigation is completely useless. I've had navs in Bmw's, Mercs, Infinitis and my present Honda which has one of the best navs in the market. They were ALL better than the Porsche nav. The nav in the 911 doesn't allow for scrolling on the map and isn't touch screen (pre 2009). The sport chrono is pretty useless also as per above posts and it breaks the nice lines of the dash, it MAY be a plus for resale though as people may look for it when buying the car. Full leather is nice too but I'd rather have the bose.
personally, I think you should buy what you want because the worth of those options are purely subjective. In contrast to the previous poster, I wanted all of the options that you have listed, ie wanted full leather, chrono, and navigation and did not consider cars that didn't have them. Regarding navigation, I hate portable units because of the inherent bulkiness and the wires associated with it. I love having full integration with PCM. I wanted full leather because afterall, it is a 100k car and I want to feel like I'm driving one (had the 986 S and I am/was sick of the spartan interior). Lastly, sport chrono, although it doesn't really yield any performance benefit, the throttle response is noticeable and coupled with PSE, it's pretty nice to be able to turn it on and off. In the end, you're going to be driving the car for the next few years so get what you are going to enjoy. I think that the only thing that will possibly hurt resale value is a lot of aftermarket equipment, notably reflashing the ECU.
