General Price Question
General Price Question
I just started looking and was offered 10% off a new 2009, or 20% off a new 2008. They were both very lightly optioned cars, but since I didn't know what the going rates were, I didn't buy.
Any advice?

Thanks for the info. I guess this is a good starting point. Just a couple more questions:
1. Is 15% for an 09 something that I should expect, or is that about the best case?
2. Does 25% off an 08 apply to all models, or just the more basic C2? (25% off a highly optioned C4S or Turbo would be quite a bit off MSRP)

im debating trading my 05 cab for a 08 coupe cause local they got a 96k sticker for 73... also have a 116 sticker 08 for 83
just use it as an argument for negotiation.. go super low.. bring in the fact u found others for XX % off.. and see what they do... if they say no.. give the guy ur card and leave... if they say yes.. u got a car cheap..

2) The base C2 would be harder to discount . Plus dealership view the car as the entry 911 and thus great demand. c4S and Turbo have some room and it depends on inventroy and eagerness of dealership to sell .
The prices you walked from are about as good as it gets .
Which local dealer you talking about???

reeves... talking about 08's clearly... might go and get the black on red.
bert smith puts up a bigger front and wont work on numbers... they say 8% is most at first, but you bring the cash out and they will budge to 13-16% on the 09's.. didnt even try on the 08's.. didnt see anything i wanted.
bought it 4/20 ... bought it VERY right,
[QUOTE=tejoe;2371280]different dealer... i bought mine right because of heavy negotiation and i paid them cash right there no hassles... i can trade my car in tomorrow for 5-6k more than i paid because of price paid and also increase in demand right now.. not sure if you guys check but in last 2 weeks blue book has gone up around 5k on base carrera's

im not pulling #'s out of my butt either, i called about 75-80 dealers before getting my car... talk to sales managers only to avoid extra commissions coming out of my pocket and playing hardball using other dealers "deals" to negotiate further....
i might be new to the 6, and have only bought so many cars but im not new to negotiating at all.. u show me a 8% deal and ill get them to 15% in 10 minutes... just gotta know where to apply pressure and what buttons to push... its not about being cheap but just buying as good as you can..

I bought a decently optioned 08 C4S new from Rusnak Pasadena last month for just under 20% off sticker. Seemed to be about the range most the local dealers were offering to move their 08 inventory off the lot.
I suppose in hind sight I could have tried to bargain more - I just took what they offered - I HATE the whole car buying experience and generally try to just get in and out quick as I can.
Was also surprised at the novelty of buying a car below sticker. Brain is still stuck in the pre-economy crash days of sticker or above sticker during the .com boom years.

i bought a new car in august and they came back where i wanted too quickly so i dropped another 5k off what i was willing to give.. they try and pull the "you just said if we went to this number you would buy.. but that doesnt matter.. they screw people everyday and its only right to screw them back.. i told the guy to go to his boss and dont come back until the number is the new number.. i told him you make people sit and wait hours till you come back with numbers cause u wanna break them down.. so im breaking you down now.. walked away with a car with 58k sticker and paid 31,8.. my trade blue booked at 23,XXX and got 28,XXX for it against the car... they took a huge loss but where their dealer was located and for what they had sitting around the money coming in was more important than the loss... the car i tradd in at 28,XXX i had bought the year before at 29,XXXOTD sticker was 38 and they were "firm" at 33... until i talked higher up the ladder and got em down in price... i was ****ting bricks when they said blue book was 23 and they'd give me 18k... then i got 28,XXX which normally they give you high trade cause they screw you on the main car but they got screwed..
i used to be timid and be the person that "waits" and loses the courage to hold their ground when they play the mind games but you just gotta throw it back at them and be firm... never forget that YOU are the one bringing the money to the table and THEY are the ones TRYING to sell you a good...
20% is good tho.. i mean for most the extra few grand isnt really worth the hassle of arguing and negotiating.. not saying your throwing money away but its just not worth the hassle.. i have a passion against "playing their game" and get pleasure out of giving them a taste of their own medicine... ive had parents and grandparents just completely raped on car buying deals and i feel its only right since times are rough and tough to give them a taste of what they've been doing to people for a while now..

Moz - The C4S at 20 percent sounds fair considering the region . You could split hairs over an extra 2 grand but I think you ought to enjoy the car and feel content .
Wa1l - I have been looking at Mercedes for a friend and noticing the trend of price drop travelling north of Miami/Ft Lauderdale .
The idea that you could sell your car and make 5 grand still won't account for the tax which places you near an even key exchange to go into a car where they profit .
If you are seeing a 15 percent discount it might be due to a rebate or incentives. The same can be said for the recent lease deals . Dealerships may be eager to move cars but most are not desperate . In fact if a dealership offers buy your car back for more than what you paid and sell it for more than they paid .. it reveals strength in the market not weakness .

Wa11 -- questions--
1)You express that certain regions ( Ohio and Michigan ) out of state are quoting you better prices . Did you buy a car from them or are these just phone qotes ?
2) If you buy a car out of state you still have to travel there or ship it . Where's the savings?
I can agree that a dealership two hours away may want to snag a sale from your local dealer but you claim to have called "75 - 80" dealerships and after all that you still want out of yoir car that you bought two weeks ago.
