I know what you said, the 911 feels like a bug with class. That is far more accurate than your mustang comment, which is equally ridiculous.
They answer the phone only to make an appointment --not to get technical at BMW. They don't have time , too many cars too mass produced and too many owners which appear demanding and impatient like you have displayed on this thread . I am not criticing you or the car . I just think Porsche is the better car and the ownership experience is more enjoyable .

The 335 has had some issues. I do post on a 3 series forum because I once leased a 330i when theives had gotten to my Porsche back in 05 .
I liked the posters there so I check with them .

The M3 is not as troublesome as the 335. Mine has been flawless in terms of reliability .I have 13K miles .

Notice the thread where the poster had his oil checked for quality before the "free service" interval as well as some of the problems. http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/bmw/bmw_3_series_e90/

Notice that you don't see majot reliability issues posted with the 997.1 or the M3 .

Either choice would be an improvement over the 335 .

Thanks . The 997tt is a great car but customized the way I have mine I end up preserving it as a garage queen . I probably will keep it forever (I hope --I love the car that much ) but at some point a daily driving 997S kept stock or modestly modded would be my route in the future .

CURIO DON'T HAVE THE DOUGH

That's it plain and simple, he cannot afford a Porsche so he is rationalizing that his car is better! I have both and feel the M3 is feminine so I gave it to my wife.

The last defense of the Porsche fanboy.

The sad fact is, you don't have the dough judging by your C2

RMS leaks don't count as a major issue?

Since this thread is probably going to get locked soon by the moderator, I just want to quote another M3 owner for his/her unbiased input.

I owned an E92 M3 and found that it was a great car. Perfect for daily driving, supremely comfortable, great sound (engine+stereo), and a lot of fun. However I did find that it didn't feel particularly fast, and also thought it lacked torque and found myself downshifting to get up hills (I had a 6spd).

I then traded it for another Porsche, this time a 997.2 S PDK. I've owned previous Porsches (996TT, 997.1, etc) and find that there is just something special about them. It has a bit more acceleration that seemed to be lacking in the M3, and the torque band is wider and more usable. It also has a bulletproof feel, little things like not running rough when cold first thing in the morning is a bonus. It is also more of a 'special' car compared to the M3 - where I live, 3 series are absolutely everywhere. Having said that, the interior of the Porsche is quite basic compared to an M3. The Bose sound is average at best, and handy features like auto-lights, comfort access, EDC are absent.

I do agree that the M3 beats the 911 on comfort, practically, engine noise, stealth. But the 911 just feels like more of a sports car - you sit down low like in a proper sports car, not perched up high. Lower weight feels more nimble.

Having said that, they really are both awesome cars and in the perfect world I'd have both. M3 has the edge in practicality/luxury/features, but the 911 remains the iconic true sports car (as opposed to a GT/coupe/3series).

All cars can face a potential problem . Whether is's the launch DCT recall or a lingering RMS example --no car is exempt from problem . The 335i however had many problems . That board has post after post of examples and equally as many by customers who were not satified with the way they were resolved . In fact the original poster on this thread has a 335 issue .

I can't guarantee that his Porsche or M3 would break down but I can say that either car would be an improvent from the 335 .

To the OP:

I also recommend taking the new supercharged 2009 S4 for a test drive. It looks quite promising and if finances permit I'll be looking to get one of these to compliment my 911. Won't sound as good as the M3's V8, but the interior is awesome, and having lots of torque down low is great in everyday driving.

Great topic! Please see prior threads with the same (and only) m3 fan:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ir-911-m3.html

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...w-m3-09-a.html

Cliff notes:
-CURIO is the only person on this forum that would trade in his 997s for a fixed up 3 series
-m3's ARE the fastest cars out there
-despite the above, m3's got spanked at American LeMans by guess which car... the 911!

A repeat of what I've written previously - had an 04 M3 Cab that I got rid of in 9 months because the service was so poor on something pretty minor (the multi function key fob, they never could get everything working at the same time, and the area rep told me i'd just have to live with it!). Was kind of fun but no real "WoW' factor and it confirmed that I don't like cabs. Have a friend with an 07; drove it once, again 'nice car', but once was enough.

A+ to Curio for having the b..ls to bring his stuff to this forum, even if it was just to raise everyones' blood pressure. BMWs aren't all bad - they can follow the Mazdas and Mustangs in the GrandAm races.

This is a heck of a thread for me to jump in here on my first post on this board, but I came from 25 years of owning BMWs and felt I had to jump in this one. I have owned two e36 m3s and the last m3, a 2002 m3. I drove the last one over six years and thourghly enjoyed it. Tracked it a couple of times. Great fun.

That being said, when the e92 m3 came out, I felt it had gained to much weight and at the end of the day it was still a 3 series. Don't get me wrong, the 3 series are great cars, but not sports cars.

Test drove the m3 and decided to stay in the same price range and looked at 06 997s'. After test driving the Carrera S, there was no question what my decision was.

I bought my 06 Seal Gray Metalic Carrera S last June. I have owned the car almost a year now and could not be happier. Never for one minute wished I had bought a new m3 instead. The steering feel and smooth shifting of the gearbox are amazing. The Porsche delivers the sportscar experience that the m3 cannot.

It's not my daily driver, but I have managed to put 6000 miles on it. I didn't buy it to be a museum piece. I've done 2 autocrosses this year and am registered to do my first DE at Road Atlanta June 6-7. This car begs to be driven. I have vowed to make it to the track with this one more often so I can drive it like it is intended to be driven and have fun.

At least post accurate stuff, didn't the M3's on the previous chassis spank the 911's? They did, then porsche whined and cried, and BMW shut down the program.

Plus, if you think your car has anything in common with the ALMS car, you are dreaming. At least if you had a GT1 block you would have something.

They are both great cars, if the 997S.2 was the better car for me, I would be in it.
