Thinking about Carrera 4S - opinions needed
Wow, that's a pricey non-tt. I agree with the trimming of the options (below) completely. But finding one at a dealer somewhere that is closely configured OR finding a lightly used 4S or tt seems far more preferable.
FWIW, my advice is that, unlike most cars where the options really change the nature and value of the car, the Porsche is simply a great car, stripped or stuffed with options. You own a Porsche because of the way it drives, not if it 'beep's when you are backing up. The personalization comes with learning to drive it well.
If you widen your search to a broad range of cars - new or used - that are currently on the lot, you will save a lot of money and not be disappointed.

OK, so this is my opinion - not to be taken as fact. there will be lots of opinions...
Rear Window Wiper - 425 - probably don't need this. i live in seattle without it.
Park Assist System - 635 - i have it on 2 cars, not on my porsche. don't miss it
Self Dimming Mirrors - 267 - a MUST have IMO
Dynamic Cornering Lights - 603 - yes
7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) - 250 YES - lots of opinions coming on this one from others
Sport Chrono Package Plus - 640 Must have with PDK
PASM Sports Suspension - 030 - must have
19" Carrera S II wheel - 419 - your choice
Heated Steering Wheel - 345 - bonus in the cold
Stone Grey Sport Seats - DD - your choice
Adaptive Sports Seats with Driver Memory - P01 - not for me . heavy
Heated Seats - 342 - bonus in the cold
Seat Belts in Speed Yellow - XSY - i would not do. the look great at first but they get dirty and you can't every really get them clean again
6-Disc CD/DVD Changer - 693 - necessary? not sure but your call. the ipod is the way most choose music now
Universal Audio Interface - 870 - must have
Bluetooth Interface for Mobile Phone - 619 - love it, must have IMO
Navigation Module for PCM - 672 - I need this
The ones that I am not sure about, and would appreciate some input on are:
Electronic Logbook - 641 - no opinion from me
BOSE High End Sound Package - 680 - some audiophiles will chime in here
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) - 450 - lots of coin, std brakes on Carrera S perform as well as this without the maint - but the pccb's don't have brake dust which some argue is worth it. IMO, pccb's are very cool though. worth the money? depends on your $$ situation
Sports Exhaust System - 176 - i love mine
PCM Voice Control - 671 - i have it on one car and never use it...
hope this helps

There are deals out there currently. These are PDK cars. Im sure you could haggle these down. I live in Chicago and have a C2S, also have a snow tires for winter. They work great. I dont drive it much in winter, but with the tires it does very well.

The thing is, the only reason I'm going with a Porsche and not a Ferrari or M BMW or Lotus, or any other of a thousand different types of cars is because the Porsche is AWD. The way I drive and the situations I drive in, I know AWD won't save my life, but it does make a difference for me.
The 997 turbo in the FS section is a manual, and even if it was an auto, I have a tip tranny in my audi and hate it with a passion. It's PDK or bust for this car. I've spent the better half of today calling dealerships in New England and I could not find a fully loaded C4S in white with sport seats, new or used. If someone knows of one, feel free to give me a heads up, because I cannot find one for the life of me. As for going out of state (as in a flight away) it isn't worth saving a few dollars at the expense of the plane ticket, miles on the car, hotel, towing the car in trailer, or other solution. As for getting a turbo, if I wanted a barebones car, sure. However, a turbo with all those options, even used, runs a lot more then $120k.

You can't get a Turbo with PDK . That is true . What the Turbo does have is the Gt1 dry sump engine which is a benchmark in terms of history and performance . It also has another 100 Hp and can be modified into a beast very easily.
The new C4S is a beautiful car with the PDK and it also comes with axle lock standard . It's an ideal Porsche for all weather driving .
Out of state purchase is a pain but the easiest way is to pin a deal over the phone , get it in writing, fly up and back in one day to see and drive the car and close the deal in person and let them set up shipping . All you do is wait a afew days .
The closer to home =the better . Further away --they have to make it worth it .
A new car is not a used car .
Cash deal is the best .
You have a lot of leverage with any dealership . You call the shots , not them .

Thanks for the PM yrralis1, I'll give the places a try and see what they can do for me.
Camhabib,
something to think about and more folks here will be able to share more info on the AWD /RWD feel of the 911, it is not the same awd like in a nissan GTR or Audi's Quattro
I felt the 911 4 with winter rubber is only needed on snowy up hill roads, for all other situations ( rain, summer weather etc ) 911 RWD with summer rubber and for snow ,winter rubber suits fine. To drive the 911 4 in snow u need winter rubber just like the rwd and i felt the rwd was more agile and livelier but still grippy
I felt The 911 due to its rear weight bias generates so much traction at the rear wheels even wet roads dont cause any grip isues when accelrating hard from a stop.

The main weather event in Florida is rain and I did feel very comfortable driving my C2S before I bought the Turbo . Whatever benefits the AWD has I believe that I am so nervous about the OTHER drivers who can't seem to navigate even when the roads are dry that I drove cautiously and slow like Miss Daisy .
I would be nervous about driving any car in the snow but the idea of getting rear ended in a C4S because someone else is skidding would be enough to have a second car .
If one car is a must -- then a heavy snow region might be a good home for a C4S and perhaps that's why he can't find any . He really might need it.

I think you will do well . Both contacts (and both dealerships) have loyal customers and I do feel that they can put you in a car with a smooth sale and smile .
As a non-Porsche owner, but soon to be, I would add something about winter driving. A BMW with 50/50 weight distribution is a POS in the winter, even with snow tires. Tires make it passable, but RWD is a real compromise. I Porsche is very different. The car has 60% of its weight over the driven wheels. That makes a big difference in acceleration and makes a big difference when driving in the snow. While a C4S will be better, I bet the difference is only slight. Second, with 19's, that car isn't going to work in the snow. It will need snow tires, preferably in a smaller size. Narrow tire profile works against you, as does tire width in the snow. Ideally, you want 17" rims (if they clear S brakes) and tires no wider than 245. As yaralis and another said, you are going to ask yourself why you are risking your $120k Porsche driving in the snow when everyone else is driving their beaters around. Mostly people with Escalades that think 4WD will help them stop from 40 mph! My 2 cents. Hell, if you have $120k, get an A4 and a used C2S.
All that said, a C2S with good winter wheels will work well - because of the weigh distribution benefit. The miracle of the new cars is that they now handle well in spite of the distribution deficit.

Don't get me wrong, I am not buying this car for the purpose of driving it in the snow. However, the main reason I am buying this car, over another make and model (other two I really looked at were an M series BMW and a Ferrari 430/360) is because of the fact that if I wanted to drive it in the snow or rain, I could. I've always driven a AWD car, and whenever I bring my cars in for servicing (MB S550, Audi, etc) they usually give me a 2WD that makes me think I'm going to die. Perhaps, like people have mentioned here, it doesn't make as much different 2WD to AWD in a Porsche as it would another car, it has to improve handling and stability some.
I don't feel full leather adds weight . That's the snag with the C4S because it's not a cheap option yet it is standard in the Turbo . It does add a nice touch to the car . I have had about 1/2 my porsches with it and it is noticeably nicer.
I'll take your word for it as it doesn't make much sense that it would. I read somewhere (can't remember what site or speak to how credible the info was) that full leather can add an easy 100lbs.
