I believe this has come up a few times with varying opinions. Some say change the oil early to remove any metal that has come loose due to break-in, others say just the filter, while some say not to do anything for a while. You may want to search to read some of the good information already put out there.

Here we go again... The computer in your car will tell you when you need to change the oil. Or, you can check the manual and it will give you an approximate number of miles. To be honest, I haven't checked the manual on my 09 yet. I track my car and so I'll change it 1x a year in the fall before I store the car for the winter. I'll probably end up with about 10k miles a year, 50/50 street track.

For those that say "change it more often than Porsche says" you have to ask "Why?" Porsche does not have any program where you get free scheduled maintenance, and they make money on oil filters. Also, their dealers make money when you go to them for service. So, if the Porsche engines really needed oil changes every 3k, 5k, 7500, etc. don't you think Porsche would suggest as much?

As for changing it myself, can't be bothered. Oil change costs me about $175 and they take care of everything including disposal. I drive in, get the keys to a great loaner, and come back in a few hours.

oil in a 997.2

Sultan,

I have a 997.2 S and, despite the long recommended intervals, I decided to have the initial oil changed at 5000 miles. My local dealer was running a Mobil 1 oil change promotion for $150, so I took them up on it. Both before and after the change the car has been using about a quart every 1500-1800 miles, so I guess the oil is pretty clean anyway though..
