zoomzoommo is infamous around these parts
A 33 second spread between the GT2 and the base Carrera over the 12.9 mile 'Ring works out to 2.56 seconds per mile. This illustrates how competently Porsche builds their models from top to bottom, and the relatively large cost of incremental gains in performance.

I'd still love to have a GT3, Turbo, or GT2 if I could afford one

Nah. Not much info. You might assume w Rohrl driving these were production cars w stock tires. The Carrera S had a "sport suspension". The real ques to me is whether or not any pdk was in there. With all the flap on whether TT is faster than GT3 this post has been very quiet. Hmmm....

Another website reported that a 997.2s with PDK, sports suspension and sports tires did it in 7:50.

Would have expected a larger difference, but the best times I've seen are 7:59 for the pre-facelift 997 S and 7:50 for the 997.2 S with PDK.

Dave, I believe that a .1 with some mild intake @ exhaust mods will run w a manual .2 enginewise. The PDK is a new dimension but it does not make me want one. Have we learned nothing from "transformers"?

The 7:59 for the 997.1 was not with PSC's from what I believe.

7:40 --- 161.22 km/h -- Porsche 997 Turbo, 480 PS/ ??? kg, Michelin Cup Sport tyres (Motortrend)
7:50 --- 157.79 km/h -- 2009 Porsche Carrera S (PDK, PASM, sport tyres)
7:59 --- 154.82 km/h -- Porsche 997 Carrera S, PASM setting “Performance”, (Walter Roehrl WHEELS 06/ 2004)

There is a 19 second difference between the 997.1 Carrera S and Turbo. The new 2009 Carrera S cuts that time into half and drops the difference to 10 seconds! amazing actually...
