Fastest way launch a 997S Tiptronic and Real Tip Shift times?

Hi, just wondering how u execute the fastest start for a Tip tranny with Sport Chrono Package.

Secondly, does anyone know the shift times of the Tip? In sport mode and normal?

Do you use manual override or just leave it to Auto?

Pls share your comments.

THANK YOU!

The fastest start for a tiptronic is to brake launch but its not good for the transaxle so its better to avoid that. I havent seen any actual times of a shift time around only that which says the pdk performs the change 60% faster than a tip only that. And for your final question manual sport mode is the fastest gear change you can achieve with a tip

Can't brake launch/brake torque in this car...it will not let you. It cuts the throttle if you are holding the brake down and try to press the throttle.

i have a related question re: downshifting. there is no way to rev match or "blip" the throttle when going from say 3rd to 2nd gear, right? do you guys worry about excessive wear on the throttle, or does porsche have some feature built in for this? thanks.

I ve done it once and I was able to built up some revs I think I went up to approximately 2200 rpm. I am not saying its good to do it but you can if you want.

to launch the car, i just mash it.

regarding shifting, i use sport mode and shift right near the red line. it won't let you overrev.

Guys I have 3 years and well over 30 tracks days with a Tiptronic. It is a very stout transmission and you will not hurt it.

1- You can not brake torque to lauch with Tiptronic
2- You can not rev match with Tiptronic
3- You can bump the rev limiter with Tiptronic if you do not press the throttle all the way and depress the kick down button under the pedal.

Now with all that said...from teh questions you all are asking I will tell you the new PDK will do everything you are asking and it will shift far faster than Tiptronic

Thanks mdrums. I appreciate the feedback. I know the new pdk is the bees knees but i've been happy overall with the tip. I got a great deal on my 07 s and do not feel the first year for a new model is ever a good bet. There are always kinks to be worked out and, i'll say it-- my wife does get to drive.

My wife does drive the car too....I have a PDK and had Tiptronic due to physical reasons. So far in 7000 miles and 5 track days PDK has been awesome especially at the track.

Fast! Milliseconds....fast as or faster than Ferrari F1...it shifts instantly with a very positive upshift feel in Sport Chrono PLUS mode and down shifts are rev matched. Pull the lever or gear shift back and it down shifts right then. Night and day from Tiptronic.
