Any poll ever done on aftermarket suspension?
Any poll ever done on aftermarket suspension?
Over decades (I know, it's a but exaggerated
), people have been debating about which aftermarket suspension is the best upgrades for our 997s. When we say best, it's kind of subjective but there are measures we would likely consider, e.g. balance between street use and track use, liability/maintenance and etc. And the brands we have been mentioning most of the times are Bilstein PSS, KW V3, Moton and some. A rough count (not scientific) shows a bigger appeal for KW V3, but I might be wrong.
Is it possible that we hold up a poll and see what people really like?
Just my 2 cents!

Didn't want to lose the PASM function so Bilstein's were the only known choice. Clearly much better than stock, but a bit too bouncy at the moment. Likely a function of setting them a bit too low at the onset and having the springs further settle. I'll be readjusting it tomorrow.
No way to compare it to other aftermarket kits.
Update: I reset mine to 117mm (front) / 138mm (rear) as measured from the Porsche spec'd chassis points. Much better ride quality and less bobbing. Also likely will reduce scraping quite a bit.

I have a 997.1S with PASM. No other coilover options, except Bilstein Damptronic, that was compatible with PASM when I was looking. I had it installed and lowered it 15mm only due to the GT3 bumper conversion and fear of scraping.
Definitely firmer than stock but not bone jarring. Somewhere between stock and PASM on. Feels more planted in corners compared to stock. Front end feels less floaty. Noticeably less body roll. On certain roads, can be a bit more bouncy than stock. With PASM button on, significantly more stiff than stock PASM; not so good for street driving.
Would I recommend Bilstein Damptronic for PASM equiped cars? You betcha. Driving experience is that much more enjoyable, assuming you have the correct alignment dialed in as well.

Can do we a poll to collect opinion more effectively? Moderator??
The result will be interesting!
Edited: Just realize I can create a poll by myself! Show your hands please!

Um, you forgot the top choice: JIC. From our very own Vivid: http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/j...08-p-9207.html
Had a set of these on my 964 - fantastic product. 15 way adjustable dampening and a wide variety of spring rates to pick from for street, street / track, or full race.

my concern was always that i wanted to preserve the "normal" ride on my 997S but stiffen the sport setting. after looking into it, i never really got a good answer about how much stiffer my DD would be - and then i spent the money somewhere else.
...it's like a drug habit.

i have the pss damptronics. very nice and am happy with them. they are firm but in a completely favorable way. they are actually less jittery and more supple than the stock pasm coils.
since you dont have pasm, i have tried on different cars, the KW V3 and the Penske coil overs.
kw's were very nice and durable. the penskes i blew out within 6 months of daily street driving.
called mallett who i purchased them from and they told me these are high end rebuildable racing shocks and will need periodic rebuilding.
so... dont get more shock than you need. more money doesnt make for a better fit necesserily. especially if this is mainly a street car, get a set that can take the daily street car beating.
my vote is go with a simple set up in either the bilstein or v3.

Thank you guys for the inputs!
Right now PSS10 is leading the way, though not many votes were counted. It is leading because of its simplicity?
The result will be more meaningful if more votes are casted.
