Engine "squeak" on falling rpms
Engine "squeak" on falling rpms
So I've got a funny noise from my engine now. Car is a 2007 C4S with 11k miles.
When I give the engine a throttle blip to about 6500 rprms, I'll get a "squeak-squeak-squeak" from it as the rpms fall to about 5000 rpms. I do NOT hear any squeaks on the way up to 6500 or as the engine falls from 5000 to 1000. It's just in that narrow range.
It's reasonably loud, but not ridiculously loud. It was happening frequently today, but not every time. There's a good chance that I'd be at the dealer service dept and they wouldn't hear it.
I should note that the noise doesn't happen at constant rpms. I can drive around in 1st gear at 7000 rpms, and I won't hear any funny noises.
I suppose it might not even be in the engine itself and that it could be the alternator or something else that's belt driven.
Has anyone heard of anything like that before?

If it's a squeak, I would suspect something related to the belt/pulley system or an engine mount. If it's a bit of a wheeze, it's likely a vacuum hose fitting.
Either way, since it's under warranty, I'd make sure the dealer had at it. You'll likely have to work very close to a lot of moving parts to diagnose it. At least make sure you take off your tie.
